I think that Podhoretz quote is at the end of the day the bottom line (to use two, TWO cliches in one sentence!).

Like the song goes, Which side are you on, boy, which side are you on?

Bush-bashing on FR? :)

Great post as always, Mia. I don't suppose Hillary would hire you as her campaign spokesperson? :D

AFTERWORD: A note to the Religious Right

(WHY THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT MUST MOBILIZE AGAINST HILLARY:
CLINTON CONFLATES EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS AND ISLAMO-FASCIST TERRORISTS
)
by Mia T, 03.16.06

I am not arguing that you change your deeply held convictions. To the contrary.

Your convictions--the evangelical ethos-- is precisely my premise, my starting point. It is precisely why I cannot envision how you would doing anything to help elect hillary clinton, someone who is anathema to all you believe.

But that is exactly what you would be doing if, in the next presidential election, you stay home or vote for a 'Perot.' You don't have to physically pull the lever or mark the box or touch the square next to the name 'hillary clinton' to help elect her. To think otherwise is to play with your mind.

It is tempting to rationalize this issue... even to ignore it. It's a difficult issue. It's a dilemma. But rationalizing the issue won't make your actions morally right... and ignoring the issue won't make it go away.

The clintons equate the Religious Right with the islamo-fascist terrorists, with the enemy. They are attempting to transfer onto the Religious Right the hate and fear and disgust Americans feel for the islamo-fascist terrorists. To disseminate their vile invective, the clintons chose a church for the venue and what the they believe to be a vulnerable, easily demagogued population for the audience. (A population they've exploited forever.)

The purpose of this article is to inform you of the clintons' contemptible and dangerous scheme. To let you hear clinton for yourself.

It is critical that you know fully what the clintons think of you and to what extremes they are willing to go to harm you, to defeat you, to crush you.

You must not ignore or rationalize away this threat to your existence. As a Jew, I tend to be vigilant about such threats. I implore you to do likewise. You must not make the same mistake my brethren made almost seven decades ago.

Hillary hire Mia?

More like it's going to be Mia's work that defeats Hillary.
I really admire the determination I see when I read Mia's threads. She's not going to let it happen again...and means it!

OK Mia. So in the words of the immortal Benjamin Franklin “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.” Got it. Keep Hitlery out of the White House and Bill out of the UN. Check.

What then? What is the platform which will get us there Mia? This is basic stuff. We better be ready to play at the next level because the ballot stuffers at the DNC are going to be working overtime. What do we stand for?

In as much as I have posed a question, I would like to suggest an answer. Here are my suggestions for our agenda, our Contract with America - Part II...

1) Win the war on the islamofascists.
2) Confirm judges who will interpret the law, not legislate.
3) Cut income taxes permanently by enacting a flat tax on incomes.
4) Spend less than the Federal government takes in.
5) Secure our borders, and send illegal immigrants packing.
6) Replace Social Security with private retirement savings.
7) Return legislative decisions on abortion to the states.
8) Add your suggestions here...

"Conservatives" must not split the party? It takes two sides to have a difference of opinion. Either side could relent and the split would be healed.

Why must the conservative branch of the party give up? Why can't the RINOs concede from their side? We would have the same result, i.e., a unified party.

It's a non sequitur. It's playing right into their hands.
We don't have to agree on the issues (indeed, can we ever?) to unite against the clintons.

Correct on all levels. So I see we have at least one "true and principled" reply. I wonder how long it will take a single issue fanatic to start a thread hijack and jihad here?

Don't we at least have to agree on the principles driving the issues? And much more than that -- since "agreement on principle" can be nothing more than convenient rhetoric -- don't we have to agree on the PRACTICES that arise from those principles? Don't conservatives have a right to expect that the people they support ACT on the principles they mouth?

I want a hot bath. If all I'm offered is tepid sewage or ice-cold lake water, I'll stay dirty.

I'm sorry. I just can't support the jellyfish Republican anymore. This time around, it's all or nothing.

Ben Franklin bump ;)

#1 above all else.
IMO, our platform must emphasize goals and competence and character, not ideology.

We must document the clintons' and the Left's utter failure to protect this country and we must tie it into their lack of competence and character. The voters must be made to understand what is at stake.

Re-read Jim Robinson's statement, above.
(You'll need more than a bath if your moral purity results in clinton: the sequel.)

Not sure I agree about the ideological component. Ronald Reagan was not an ideologue per se, but he did have a well thought out ideology - i.e. a vision which he could articulate. The average joe can tell that neither party has a lock on the character issue - hopefully we can say truthfully that the difference between Republicans and DemocRATs is that we Republicans prosecute criminals, unlike the DemocRATs who coddle theirs. We certainly cannot say (truthfully) that all Republicans of perfect character. With respect to competance, yes, it is required, unfortunately, its not enough. Hitler made the trains run on time.
