BOSTON -- A plane carrying Sen. Edward Kennedy from a commencement speech in western Massachusetts to his Cape Cod home was struck by lightning Saturday.
A Kennedy spokesman said the plane lost all electrical power and had to be diverted to New Haven, Conn.
No one was hurt.
The Massachusetts Democrat had just delivered the commencement address at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams and was on his way to Hyannis to spend Mother's Day with family when the plane was struck at about 2:45 p.m.

He'll claim the lighting was attracted by a wind farm.

This was already posted here under a slightly different title:
Plane carrying Sen. Kennedy struck by lightning
The plane was likely
this Cessna Citation Bravo 550 jet aircraft, tail number N505RP. The same plane flew to Pittsfield Municipal Airport near North Adams early yesterday morning.
The likely flight path before it was struck by lightning is available on FlightAware
here. The plane left Pittsfield Municipal Airport at 2:09PM, and was likely hit 5-10 miles off the coast of Martha's Vineyard while starting its descend to land at Barnstable Municipal near Hyannis. The plane appears to have lost contact at 2:44PM while cruising at about 10,000 feet.
According to FAA records, that plane is owned by Boston Air Charter Company LLC of Norfolk, Massachusetts.
To: justche
Thank goodness the plane landed safely. If it hadn't I'm sure the Swimmer's new nickname would've been the Skydiver and the old fart would've bailed out with the only parachute onboard.
To: justche
I hear that Teddy talked to the pilot and offered to put it down in a nearby bay, if need be.

Well, let's see.
A car wreck. We know which one.
An airplane wreck.
A tree fell on his car.
And lightning struck his plane.
Not to mention various and sundry personal family disasters.
Is someone trying to tell him something?

This guy is really something. He's been living on borrowed time for probably at least 20 years. Kennedy has more lives than a cat. He survived the Chappaquidick (sp?) ducking. He survived a plane crash a number of years back. He survived he and Chris Dodd playing "sandwich" with a restaurant waitress. And now he survives this lightening strike.
