Considering the continent is called "North America" We will always been known as "Americans" no matter what kind of totalitarian communist dictatorship it may become. Whether there will be such a thing as "The United States of America" is another thing however. We might revert to being called a Dakotan, or a Ohioan, Texan, etc.
We citizens of the USA mistakenly call ourselves by the continent name rather than citizens of the USA.
