One of my "tobacco smoking" uncles died of lung cancer at 65 years old a few years ago. Have you ever been around anyone dying of lung cancer? It's like 18 months of pneumonia. Coughing, bedridden and taking pain medication that causes constipation.
Anyway, I am encouraged that Louisiana is helping the people who smoke tobacco reduce it's use. A lot of people around me that are approaching 60 years old are dying of tobacco use complications.
You know what the cruel part of it is? Just about the time a person is at retirement age, got grandchildren and money in the bank - premature death.
I do wish all the tobacco users the best in life.
One of my "non-smoking" uncles died of kidney disease at 63 years of age. Have you ever been around someone dying of kidney disease?
The point of anecdotes is that they mean nothing.
Let's try this anecdote: people who don't smoke live 7 years longer than people who smoke. They get to sit in nursing homes, drooling, not recognizing their family, haven't a clue where they are, need a nurses aide to go to the bathroom, take 5 different pills to maintain some semblance of normalcy, can't drink a beer or eat a tomato, see their few possessions stolen by nursing home staff, get treated like crap after visiting relatives leave and the windows in their room won't open to give a wisp of fresh air.
