I don't know. This "socialist council" as they called it seems more akin to the Tali ban in their barbaric destruction of antiquities.

I guess local governments the same everywhere.Yup. Just like Northern Virginia and Civil War battlefields. In any showdown between a strip mall and a battlefield, the mall will wins hands down. After all, there are some folks in Northern Virginia who still live more than 1/2 mile from a mall, so progress must be served.

There is nothing more beautiful in this world than a parking lot. It speaks of efficiency, it tells that people are not willing to waste time on slow and inefficient self-transportation.

The undergound (therefore covered) parking is how far from city hall?

Not to worry. A hundred years from now, they'll tear up the pavement and find the Roman town again.

Did the Romans ever create anything as beautiful, history making, and lasting as this?!

Under the Socialists, everything but the Islamic past will be erased.
Soon the Muslims will re-take their beloved Al-Andalus.

I guess local governments the same everywhereWell, not quite. In the US we have the Historic Preservation Act, or whatever the latest incarnation is called, and that comes into play whenever federal money's involved.

Good for them. Do it again!!!! Now, if this had been a habitat for the spotted owl or snail darter then the bulldozers would never have gone forward. In 2000 years the scientist can lament when they dig up a 2007 Nissan and it gets sent to the crusher. It'll be worth the same as some dead guy's community bath tub... LOL

The commercial future of his city would have been assured by tourists if they had reconstructed such a wonderful site.

Not that I endorse losing ancient treasures like this, but this is the kind of thing that happens when your empire fails.
Roman cities have been getting paved over for a long time now. It's just the way it is. Regretable, that this town didn't have the foresight to see the value in this discovery, but value is relative.

They discovered a well-preserved Roman forum, bath house, gymnasium and temple But other than that and the aqueducts, what did the Romans ever do for them?
