In Rhode Island, Chafee Leads by Double Digits A new Rhode Island College poll shows Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) with a double-digit lead over Sheldon Whitehouse (D), 51% to 32%.
When Steve Laffey (R) is the GOP nominee, Whitehouse wins, 50% to 27%. However, in the GOP primary Chafee is ahead of Laffey by a wide margin, 56% to 28%.
In Pennsylvania, Santorum Continues to Trail The latest Rasmussen Reports poll shows Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) trailing rival Bob Casey (D) by 13 percentage points, 51% to 38%.
"Santorum is struggling with his base, consistently earning less than 70% of the vote from Pennsylvania Republicans. He's at 65% support from the GOP in the current poll. Casey, on the other hand, is supported by 77% of Democrats."
In New Jersey, Menendez Holds Six Point Lead Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has opened a 40% to 34% lead over State Sen. Tom Kean, Jr. (R), with 20% still undecided, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.
I understand that Csey has clammed up, and that is his strategy in all his races, to make people think he is more conservative than he really is.
Pittsburgh
Oh, must be a 'Burgh thing! LOL!
It's his pro-life stance causing him the problem - the internals of the Rasmussen poll showed that Santorum's standing about Republicans increased on a second ask after being informed that Casey was also pro-life.
What you said - - I couldn't agree more.
If Chaffee loses to a more conservative Republican in the primary then that nominee will deserve maximum support. If Chaffee does not lose that primary, then the Republicans of that state preferred him and he will be rightward of the alternative in the general election for One Critical Reason.
That being that he casts the most important vote of any session correctly -- the vote for majority leader. It is the majority leader that defines the agenda and what bills reach the floor.
The Kean situation is disappointing. He had a lead recently.
Unfortunately, part of the "'Burgh thing", when combined with the Philly thing, amounts to turning an otherwise sensible, conservative state into a Democratic stronghold. And with a longtime party insider and true smiling sleazebag in Democratic tradition Fast Eddie Rendell at the governor's helm, there are even greater obstacles for a Republican than simply winning a fairly contested election.
I have no doubt that Rendell has already guaranteed Casey's victory to Howlin' Howie Dean, and will go to any measure necessary to deliver--as only a crooked Democrat knows how to do and is brazen enough to pull off because he knows the press will cover for him.
Bad news across the board, if these polls are anywhere near correct.
And yes, in the "bad news" I'm including Chafee's big lead over the Rat.
It's an all too common mistake these days, but Pennsylvania is a commonwealth, not a state. It seems to be forgotten, sadly.
Allegheney County has tended to nueter the crazed Pittsburgh crowd in most elections, although I agree with you about Philly. There lies the real problem.
If only we could give Philly to New Jersey!
Cheers! :-)
Forgotten to the point of irrelevance, I'd say.
Thea be too much fagettin' goin' on 'round heah!
What a great idea! Give Philly to New Jersey! Where I'm from, we'll give Milwaukee to Illinois -- maybe take a trade for Rockford.
But then Minnesota would give Minneapolis to us, Michigan would want to give Detroit to, well to Canada I suppose, And New York state would want to give NYC back to the Indians.
