I'll never forget about thirty years ago, watching on tv a horse contest between a still in his prime Jerry West and a female player named Karen Logan. Well Logan won the contest, and the female commentator exclaimed aloud that this proved that women could play as well as men.
Now Logan was a very good player who could have probably killed me in a one-on-one contest, but she was not remotely within miles of Jerry West's caliber as a player. And I suppose after Billie Jean King defeated the well over-the-hill Bobby Riggs (who I suspect threw the match anyway), many gullible women were convinced that women could compete with men equally.
There are very few of those sports, though, and none where strength is an issue. I think the world record for women's bench press is something like 400 lbs.
Men's record is 800 lbs., and there are men over fifty that can bench press 600 lbs. I'm not saying that 400 lbs. isn't a great bench, but there are probably ten men on every college campus that can beat the women's world record.
BTW, favorite bumper sticker:
"So you're a feminist. Isn't that cute?"
