Were seeing today the legacy of letting environmentalists dictate energy policy for decades.
Bingo!
DC: Where civil servants run your country.
This had some clearly articulated ideas on how to fix the problem.
Care to guess whether President Bush will heed this advice?
Or to guess how long it will take before the so-called economics gurus of our Free Republic will arrive telling us all how wonderful the world is... and if you don't like the price of gas, to shut up and walk.
And remember, the price of buying a deserted tropical island can be up to $25,000,000... so gas is cheap at only $3.00/gallon.
:-(
DC: Where civil servants run your country.
I agree, Beltway Fever is going ruin this country!
Moving congress, of course, life could be different. We need to start building more refineries and drilling platforms.
Hear, hear. Give this man/woman a toaster.
Don't worry. There are geniuses among our highschoolers who will figure out how to deliver merchandise to market anywhere in the world at 1000 miles per gallon.
I agree with everything in the article...
Build more refineries;
Build atomic energy plants;
New drilling in places we think there's oil;
Alternative fuels like ethanol;
Other energy sources like Wind and Solar;
All Of it.
But First -- That EXXON Official should send back the 400 million dollars.
And if he doesn't Investigate Oil Industry And Do it Good.
You make too much $$$...
Send half of your paycheck to: dakine
Thanks....
The left eco-geeks "don't let" (How the HELL is it possible that they have more power than CONGRESS AND the President) us DRILL...."don't let" us REFINE, and then SCREAM about the price being so high!!! THINK PEOPLE...it's the LEFT and the environmentalists!!!
Going to ruin? Unfortunately, we have made a beeline into decline. I thought that the Republican-controlled Congress and the Presidency would do the trick. Apparently not.
And, I think that it has more to do with the Congress and the spineless pubbies in the GOP, than Bush's intiatives.
Course, Bush is the President and the President can go directly to the people with his message and use the power of the Presidency to advocate his policies. Seems that the only "policy" that he has spent time on is talking about Iraq...ad naseum in some cases.
But, that's what we elected. The 2008 bunch is going to be more liberals...on either side of the ticket, D or R.
Our country, I'm quite sorry to say, is on a rapid slide into entrenched socialism at every level of government. Some people don't want to admit it and, sure, there may be (small) pockets of true liberty and freedom in this country, but the "old U S of A" that so many tell other to "love or leave" just isn't the same country.
And, for the record, everytime I have to admit that, it makes me want to vomit on myself.
But, I don't see any other signs to the contrary.
We cannot tax and investigate ourselves to lower prices. The only solution is increased supply. Supply has a logic and force that is all its own, whereas government is motivated by political considerations that only rarely are aligned with the interests of efficiency and liberty.
When you trade your dollars for gasoline at the Exxon station, does Exxon tell you when and where you can drive with the gas? Do they tell you what is an acceptable use for the gas you just bought?
No? Then why do you presume to tell Exxon what they should do with the dollars you (and others) traded for their gasoline? It's not your money anymore, it's theirs.
Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?
Who cares if a Exxon had a 400 million retirement package comrade...
"...and if you don't like the price of gas..", suck it up and buy a diesel.
Sounds to me as if the adjustments Bush discussed are both within his power and good ones. With all of the hysteria on this, who knows how much teaking the system will do? Might be a lot.
