Prosecute McCarthy, Send Her to Prison
Human Events ^ | April 25, 2006 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 04/25/2006 8:41:16 AM PDT by Cindy_Cin

Mary McCarthy, special assistant to President Clinton and senior director of intelligence in his White House, has been fired by the CIA.

McCarthy allegedly told the Washington Post our NATO allies were secretly letting the CIA operate bases on their soil for the interrogation of terror suspects. Apparently, McCarthy failed several polygraph tests, after which she confessed.

If true, she was faithless to her oath, betrayed the trust of her country, damaged America's ties to foreign intelligence agencies and governments, and broke the law. The Justice Department is investigating whether McCarthy violated the Espionage Act.

Yet, while she may be headed for criminal prosecution and prison, the Post reporter to whom she leaked intelligence on the secret sites, Dana Priest, just won a Pulitzer Prize for revealing the existence of these sites.

Also copping Pulitzers were two reporters for the New York Times who revealed that, since 9/11, U.S. intelligence agencies have been intercepting calls and e-mails between terror suspects and U.S. citizens.

President Bush had implored the Times not to publish the story, lest exposure of the spying program alert al Qaeda to U.S. capabilities and operations.

I usually don't agree with Buchanan, but he is dead on in this article.

Prison is where she ought to go, if found guilty.

To the Democrats, their party means more than their country. Her act was improper only if she betrayed her party.

I agree, but the lib-dem trash will thwart this at every turn. She's one of theirs: The Enemy Within™, doing what they want her to do in destroying The Bush Presidency.

She should be arrested and held without bail...that will send a big time message to the other potential leakers.

Due process and all.

Correction though, WHEN found guilty, she should do hard time (making little ones out of big ones) in the Disciplinary Barracks at beautiful, downtown Ft. Leavenworth KS.

Are we sure we want her in prison teaching other liars and crooks her trade? Ouch...They'd all be dims when they get out. How about putting her in isolation.

I'd love to see this b*tch or maybe I should say BUTCH be frog-marched to a fed pen for the rest of her life. MacRanger says she'll squeal like a pig on others and will not end up in jail...I HATE THAT...I hope and pray she ends up where she belongs...IN PRISON!!!!!!!!!

She should be hung by the neck until dead...right on the Washington DC ellipse.

And then the gulls and pigeons can feed on her carcass.

McCarthy hasn't even been charged yet. Neither had Cynthia McKinney. And Sandy Burglar got a deal when he should have gotten a bullet.

Geez guys, can we calm down a minute? It's beginning to sound a little lynch-mob-like in here. There's a article in WaPo today - just hold fire a min!- that quotes a current "senior intelligence official" who says that McCarthy was fired because she had "undisclosed contacts with journalists, including Priest, in violation of a security agreement." However, the official is denying that McCarthy was the source of the "secret European prisons" story.

"Undisclosed contacts" could mean anything from chatter at a cocktail party, to schmoozing at a think-tank seminar, to passing microfilm in a hollowed-out pumpkin. But whatever it was, it apparently did NOT include the prisons disclosure. Maybe the firing, following up on Priest's Pulitzer, led folks to put two-and-two together. But has the CIA OR the WH actually accused her of spilling the beans on that extremely sensitive issue? No. Maybe because she didn't do what some folks in the press are claiming she did. Press mistakes can happen, right?

I'm willing to follow the old "assumption-of-innocence" rule, which is apparently seen as quaint nowadays by some. Accusations? Speculation? Conclusions jumped to on the basis of sketchy reporting? Who cares - hang 'em high!

One thing is for sure - the reason for her firing will be revealed in more detail by the end of the week. No reason to chuck her into Leavenworth before more facts come out. "Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord."

Seymour Hersh won a Pulitzer Prize for his "exposé" of the Mai Lai massacre. Swear in the press, all government civilians and the military then charge them with a crime. Developing.
