`Disclosure' over war is called for (Ellsberg screed)

PRINCETON BOROUGH -- Daniel Ellsberg, famous for exposing government deception about the Vietnam War and its casualties, said yesterday the war in Iraq should be fought with the help of insiders in the Bush administration.

As he once did, in leaking the famed Pentagon Papers to the New York Times in 1971, Ellsberg said insiders should be more forthcoming with information that might expose dangerous wrongdoing in government.

Instead of waiting until the 2004 publication of his book, "Against All Enemies," presidential adviser Richard A. Clarke should have "taken a good drawer full of documents out of his desk -- just the estimates of the Iraq war's devastating effect on the war on terrorism" and made them public, Ellsberg said.

Ellsberg spoke at the Princeton Theological Seminary last night to an audience mostly comprising members of the Coalition for Peace Action.

He said other Bush administration insiders could have done more for proper disclosure, such as Rand Beers, a former American counterterrorism adviser who served on the National Security Council.

Ellsburg should have been hung for his crime years ago.

Of course it's still not too late!

Yes, Daniel; let's have some disclosure, starting with the newly translated Saddam documents showing he was working on WMD programs and that he had ties with Al Qaeda.

If Ellsberg had been tried for treason and shot publicly when he committed his treason. Millions of lives would have been saved in SE Asia and probably around the world.

Ellsberg is the hero of the lunatic left wing which hates a strong America and a strong military.

If only we could ship all these idiots over to some 3rd world Islamic country and just drop them off to fend for themselves.

Ellsberg is the hero of the lunatic left wing which hates a strong America and a strong military and supporters murderous butchers and dictators. There, that's better. Although that little bit was implied, I thought it needed to be stated outright...

Why was Elsberg never prosecuted? This isn't a rhetorical question. Nixon had an AG, didn't he sick him on Elsberg? Sorry I'm rusty on my hippy history. All these people from Kerry, to Fonda, to Jerry Brown, keep coming back and coming back. John Dean "impeach Bush". Elsberg "leak". ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHH.

The baby boom will never go away!! At least Hunter Thompson did the honorable thing and got himself off the planet after only 20 years of being a characature of himself. Most of these people will still be blathering on to their remaining boomers at 90, you can just tell.

He said he sees strong parallels between the Bush administration and the war in Iraq and the Nixon administration and the war in Vietnam,

I could have sworn that Viet Nam was Kennedy and Johnson’s war. Nixon was a late comer to that war.

These Liberals always bring out Nixon when they want to make Viet Nam sound really bad and get people on their side for another stupid cause.

Ah yes, the delusional mindset. If I say it is so, it must be so. We have offended the world, the US must pay for its crimes it is all our fault ... No it is W's fault, we are just bystanders.

No war is justified, we should have let Attila, Gengis, Ivan, Adolph, Joseph, Mao, Pol or all of them have their way.

Excuse me I've made myself sick!

"Why wasn't this guy killed (treason) a long time ago?"

At a minimum, he ought to be still rotting in prison.

The author means the self-righteous leaking of secret information. The stuff that spies usually get 30 years for.

He was prosecuted but the case fell a a part when it came out that some of Nixon's people broke into his shrinks office among other things.

Does anyone recall a story from beck then about Ellsberg traveling to Havana and being debriefed by the KGB, which led the US to having to retarget its ICBM's because they feared he had revealed actual strategic plans.

"...Nixon's people broke into his shrinks office among other things."

I remember hearing the phrase "Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist" over and over on the news at that time. Almost as often as "Fugitive financier Robert Vescoe".

I'm just sitting here listening to Jeb Babbin talking about the media and leaking secrets. He doesn't want to curtail the media at all for fear of 1st amendment rights - so I would say if even conservatives feel this way I have to conclude that all is lost. This article (bttt) is actively encouraging everyone that has access to classified information and disagrees with the Iraq theater and the WOT to just come forward and dump everything they can haul out of their office and dump them on Pinkie Sulzberger's desk. We all know he will print them and then the Islamofacists will have a much easier time of eradicating every last one of our 300 Million population.
