from the top post:
"If elected officials took campaign contributions from said illegals,
this could be characterized as extortion, and/or bribery, and a violation
of the Hobbs Act."
Actually, what it's about is pushing for prosecution IF a "quid pro quo"
can be found.
And even though it has probably happened, it would be hard to prove legally.
BUT, letting the public know it's going on is probably sufficient to
at least partially put the brakes on such practices.
Besides, when tax $$$ are used to prop up the infrastructure to
keep the Illegals fat and happy, that's good enough as theft from
the legal, tax-paying citizens, IMHO.
Would the demonstration on May 1st fall under the Hobbs Act. Because the demonstrators have threatened to "shut down all the ports, railways and airports" doesn't that fall under "Interference of Commerce by Extortion..."unlawfully obstruct, delay and affect, and attempt to obstruct, delay and affect, commerce as that term is defined in Title 18, United States Code, Section 1951, and the movement of articles and commodities in such commerce, by extortion, as that term is defined in Title 18, United States Code, Section 1951, in that the defendant did obtain and attempt to obtain (tangible or intangible property) the property of (victim with connection to commerce) with his/her consent having been induced by the wrongful use of actual and threatened force, violence and fear, [including fear of economic harm,] in that the defendant did (describe defendant's wrongful use of force, violence or fear)".
Hmmmmm.......I see that you are one savvy FReeper upon whom subtlety is not wasted.
Frankly, it's quite annoying that so many just don't get it.
