CIA fires source of leaks for prize-winning stories
The Seattle Times ^ | April 22, 2006 | Associate Press & Washington Post

WASHINGTON — The CIA has fired a senior officer for leaking classified information to the media, including material for Pulitzer Prize-winning stories in The Washington Post that said the agency maintained a secret network of prisons overseas for high-ranking terrorism suspects.

The termination, announced Friday, marks the latest in a series of high-profile crackdowns on spy agency and Bush administration officials accused of unauthorized disclosures of classified information.

The CIA would not identify the fired officer, citing Privacy Act protections.

But current and former intelligence officials identified her as Mary McCarthy, a former White House aide who until this week held a senior position in the CIA's Inspector General's Office.

McCarthy "served as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs at the White House during the Clinton administration and the first few months of the Bush administration."

Now we begin to learn where all these traitorous leaks are coming from and why.

If this McCarthy broad is the only one, I'd be mighty surprised.

I wish that they could also indict the reporter for receiving classified information.

I can't believe that she confessed after taking a lie detector test. How stupid. Lie detector tests are so unreliable and are easy to beat. Trick is to clench your anal sphincter muscle during the control question (you'll be known as a "screamer") and everything answer you give thereafter will be interpreted as being the truth.

Oh look, a democrat who sold their country up the river because she's mad Kerry didn't win -- what a trifling piece of crap she is! I think her acts are seditious along with the reporter and they should be tried for treason! For someone to put their country's national security at risk for some stupid press piece is just flat out disgraceful on both the CIA officer and the reporter. I'm praying this puts a burning spotlight on the extremes libs will go to smear our president and our country!

There have been two recent reports out of the European Union stating that the "secret prisons" stories couldn't be confirmed. No evidence, and those who testified on some elements of the stories were found to be neither credible nor relevant.

Hence, there's now some speculation elsewhere on the Internet that the "secret prisons" story originially began inside the CIA in an effort to identify leakers. McCarthy took the bait and leaked this false story to Dana Priest of the WashPost.

Which means that Priest's Pulitzer Prize is also completely bogus.

This confirms she was working on investigations....then feeding classified info to the MSM and undoubtedly, the Democrat Party.

Lots of great info on this thread:

Have you ever taken a lie detector test? I did, as part of a hiring process. It's strange to say the least.

Fwiw, I wasn't hired for the job.

I commented on another thread that I think it is instructive how quiet Senators Rockefeller and Durbin have been.
Sadly, I don't think this Administration has the b*lls to nail these guys, even if they deserve it.
See Able Danger, the TSA, FEMA,etc., etc.,etc.

this story is getting heavy rotation in the leftwing oracles. they're up to something

The "something" is in the last four paragraphs, beginning with "Washington has been racked by a series of high-profile leaks and subsequent investigations in recent years." The list, of course, Bush "declassifying" information (not a crime), Scooter Libby leaking Plame's name (he didn't), and Bush's wiretapping.

McCarthy, OTOH, is a brave and virtuous heroine, as evidenced by the statement of "Post Executive Editor Leonard Downie Jr. (who) said people who provide citizens the information they need to hold their government accountable should not 'come to harm for that.'"

It doesn't matter who or what else may "come to harm for that," of course, including, but not limited to national security, diplomatic relations with allies, and the ability to deal effectively with a worldwide jihadist network hellbent on our destruction. It doesn't matter that McCarthy broke the law. Nothing matters but the MSM/Democratic anti-anything-Republican nihilism.

If they've uncovered one Clintonista in the CIA, there are no doubt plenty more.

Hope she gets a few years in prison to think about it.

she won't.

Do you see anyone with classified docs stuffed in his/her pants/socks, serving a minute of time?

I don't understand why not, but it sure seems to be the case.

But the funny thing is she seems to have fallen for a phony story. The story is a fraud. So you have to wonder did they make up the story just to trap the leaders?
