I have a region free DVD player (programmable through the remote). Some US release have a technology (RCE?) that refuse to play on any DVD player that is region free. It MUST be toggled to R1.

Now I can do it but it is a hassle. And I don't have to do that to watch most of my discs. And if I toggle it to R1, then I will have to toggle it back to R0 to watch my R2, R3, and R4 discs. OR I can just import the foreign edition of the offending US title. Problem solved.

The US industry's answer is I should buy R1, R2, R3, and R4 machines and play each disc on the "appropriate" DVD player.

Their answer is that you live in region 1 and therefore shouldn't be watching region 2, 3 or 4 DVDs. If Hollywood wanted you to watch those movies, they would sell them to you in Region 1.

Yeah, it's a load of crap, but that's what they think. I have a cheap Apex DVD player that I loaded with region changable firmware to watch an occasional non-Region 1 disk.
