From all I've seen, it's all hoopla and the coach's life is ruined.

He saved his career from "ruin" by getting out of there quick. Smart.

He'll get snatched up by another school.

From the N&O: Duke lacrosse players not among those publicly indicted Monday

DURHAM, N.C. -- A grand jury adjourned Monday without returning any public indictments against Duke University lacrosse team players, but a defense attorney said the panel did consider the rape allegations against them.

Why would they be sealed? Just in case the allegations are vaporized?..........

The grand jury system is a tragic fraud. If an indictment is handed down, the public will believe there is traction to the allegations, regardless of whether the allegation has any merit whatsoever.

A DA with an agenda gets to present an ex parte sermon to grand jurors, who, not surprisingly, return indictments in the vast majority of cases where the DA doesn't wash them out.

Once you're on the DA's radar, he holds almost all the cards...

Why would the proceedings of a grand jury be made public? Before an indictment? Someone maybe doing some grandstanding?

From what I've heard, I'd have to exonerate the ham sandwitch that the DA finally gets papers on. Filthy, corrupt system.

it is indeed becoming an abusive part of the justice system - mot intrinsically, but because of the unchecked conduct of district attorneys. for the GJ system to be fair, DAs must also be fair. that is breaking everywhere in this country, and as such, the GJ system is melting down.

Agreed. The grand jury system is a huge flaw in our legal system. While I don't advocate turning the grand jury into a full fledged trial, the defense should be afford a retort to the charges.

I wonder if anyone checked to see if the accuser was related to Cynthia McKinney! No doubt this prosecutor is playing the race card to garner the black vote.
