The Democrats have no solutions, so it is going to be the Republican voter who stays at home that will doom the election for us.
Newt manages to criticize the establishment R's for not passing a tough enough border bill but, it turns out, he is just another establishment R who want's guest worker programs.
"Gingrich warns Republicans Americans want change"
Yes we do. And I like Newt. But Newt needs to suggest positive changes rather than focusing on what he thinks President Bush did wrong.
He got that one right.
A well-designed guest worker program would have the support of 75 percent to 80 percent of the American people, he said.
Don't think he got that one right.
Probably not.
The Republican Party must stop representing BIG BUSINESS or it's going to get it's teeth kicked out!!
No matter what anyone says, the only people who have control over this upcoming election, are the voters like you and me. If We stay home because, We're pissed off at the way things are going, We'll seal our own fates. DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN!
IMO, Gingrich is on to something. The Dems have nothing, nada, zero, zip to offer unless you are a big fan of higher - MUCH higher taxes and naked vote-buying schemes (in addition to hysterical rantings from the likes of Howard Dean and Al "I'm-a-bigger-hypocrit-than-anyone" Gore). The'Pubbies have not proven themselves to be any better. With Bush's refusal to veto a single bill, whether it be budget-related, bad law (McCain-Feingold), or pushing for immigration "amnesty" and guest worker programs that are out-of-step with mainstream America.
We are facing a period in which polar extremes are driving the country's direction. The left, continuing the losing streak that began in 2000, believes that the direction to go is FURTHER left because they haven't figured out that mainstream America isn't going to go with them.
IMO, much of the country (politically) is more conservative than politicians from either party can grasp. We are tired of being spent into oblivion by drunken, unethical, unprincipled politicians whose first concern is for themselves - NOT their country, their constituents, or even their party. We are tired of rewarding those who violate our national sovereignty and break our laws. We are weary of politicians who have been given mandates by the public during national elections and refuse to act on it. We are tired of the spinelessness of the "leaders" in our own party and the (apparent) lack of direction from either party. We are tired of an America that has become a rudderless ship of state.
FWIW, I think that the politician who emerges with a plan to right our rudderless ship of state, close the borders, deport the illegals, develop a sound energy policy (d@mn the environazis, full speed ahead!), control spending (including using the veto power), restore value and integrity to our public school system and end the tax inequity by either a flat tax, fair tax or other tax plan that puts the burden of operating this nation on the backs of us all and not just a few, will be the big winner in '08.
This can't be true...he is kidding right?
Republicans better tell people just what the hell they stand for, because it sure isn't for lower taxes and lower spending.
All I have to say is Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Leader Harry Reid, Charlie Rangel over Ways and Means, John Conyers over the Judicial Committe in the House, Sheila Jackson Lee over immigration in the House. As bad as some of the Republicans are, all of the dems are worse...
If only the GOP would pass substantial border sealing legislation (a 10-year plan to fence/wall the southern border) along with a proposal to extend the tax cuts, they might be able to skate thru the '06 elections without much loss.
Save the hard stuff, like plans to stop the automatic "anchor baby's" and cuts (big reductions) in growing entitlements, for after the Nov. elections.
Yeah, it might be a wussy way out, but it makes sense to let the candidates for '08Prez and 08 Congress to fight it out since they will be the ones who live or die by such proposals.
As for the current illegal alien flood, the GOP should at least pass a law this year which allows (or mandates)states to incarcerate all illegal aliens who commit a crime, or otherwise violate US laws.
Congress must also immediately mandate severe penalties for any businessman, homeowner, or school which knowingly hires or codifies an illegal alien.
ALSO, make yearly increasing penalties for illegal aliens from 06 thru 2012. For example, if caught in the US in 06, the penalty is immediate deportation plus a $5,000 fine if they ever want to apply for legal entry or status.
If they are caught in 07, immediate deportation plus a $10,000 fine for future legal papers PLUS they must wait 10 years before applying.
For 08, deportation plus 15 year wait before applying for legal US entry PLUS a $25,000 fine.
Of course, some might see these penalties as too severe, or the fines too much, but the idea to INCREASE penalties each coming year makes a lot of sense to me.
Newt, I loved ya for your Congressional leadership as House GOP Leader...
But you blew your cred when you recently appeared with the witch (aka Hillary Clinton regarding your "Health Care Reform" tour.)
