Authorities have made an arrest in the case of a young Alabama woman who disappeared while vacationing in Aruba, an Aruban official said Saturday.
The arrest is connected with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, according to a source who spoke with MSNBC TV. The person arrested is believed to be an acquaintance of Dutch national Joran van der Sloot and Surinamese brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, who were seen leaving an Aruban bar with the 18-year-old American the night she disappeared, the source said.
Mariaine Croes, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutors office, said Aruban authorities were not prepared to disclose why the person was arrested. Croes also would not say how the arrest was linked to the disappearance of Holloway nearly a year ago, on the final night of her high school graduation trip to the Dutch Caribbean island.

Well, isn't that special. Another arrest in a case they've botched since the beginning.

This should be good for 7 more months of wall to wall coverage
Looks like they finally found a scapegoat for the rich kid.
Must've been the tv movie that lead to this ;)
Oh no, Greta will be as the Ever Ready Battery, she will just keep going and, going and, going.
But there is a thought in my mind. If , just suppose Joran is telling the truth and, in the interview with Greta he stated he left her on the beach along. He stated there were other people on the beach the night in Question and conceivably some else could have gotten to her. I have not heard an argument for this situation.
Remind me to unplug my TV before Monday evening.
< tin foil hat> The truth is that the television media sends out death squads to kill young and pretty women so that Greta, Larry King and Katie Couric can endlessly talk about the unsolved crime, boost ratings and make millions. < /tin foil hat>

You beat me to it. My first thought exactly. Anybody but the real guy or guys.
OK so imagine you're a virile young man on vacation in a tropical paradise. You go out on the town to do what young people do, drink, dance and hit on each other. You can't believe your luck! You meet a hot looking blond from the U.S., with an irresistible Southern twang. Then she actually gets drunk, better yet, she agrees to leave the bar with you and your friends! So what do you do? You drive her to the beach and leave her there alone.
I used to do that scene about 20 years ago. Sorry but that part of the story makes him a liar in my book. And if he's lying then that opens up a whole other can of worms.
exactly.
Is this refering to the Duke rape case or the Holloway disappearance ?
And let's not forget. He wanted to have sex with her but chose to rush home and do his homework.
Sounds like the scene from Casablanca where the Inspector looks about the hangar and then instructs his Lt. to round
up the usual suspects.
Joran abused other girls, a fact he boasted about on his website. Getting US tourist women/blondes, drunk/drugged, then raping them was openly stated as a fun thing to do. And isn't this arrest convenient? Aruba gets back its lucrative US tourist trade (they hope), and Joran and the Kalpoe brothers are victims.
The arrested man will probably be found non compos mentis and not really guilty. It was all Natalee's fault. She threw herself at Joran, according to his latest story. Yelling and screaming at him to dance with her. She wanted mad, wild sex with all three of them, was a virtual sex/drug fiend. Joran saw her doing drugs, lots of drugs, drinking heavily. If they find her bones, Aruban authorities will claim this man led them to the burial site, therefore he's definitely to blame for leaving her on the beach...like Joran...one of his many, many versions. Maybe she buried herself. Words fail.
