Free Heroin Hospitalizes 7 In Chicago

(CBS) CHICAGO - Chicago police say seven people had to be taken to local hospitals yesterday after drug dealers on the city's West Side began handing out free samples of the latest batch of heroin to hit the street.

About noon, paramedics responded to a call at an alley off West 21st Place, where three people were reportedly suffering overdoses or the effects of tainted dope.

Authorities scoured the neighborhood and found four more people unconscious in plain sight within a three-block area.

WBBM-TV in Chicago reports that it was surprising even in a neighborhood that has seen it all – ambulances lined up to revive and transport people lying in the streets and alleyways unconscious and barely breathing.

All seven were treated with an anti-narcotic, shipped to nearby hospitals, and were reportedly in good condition.

In a few days, local residents said they expect people to flock to that same alley looking for that same batch of heroin, even though police are passing out fliers as warnings.

Police are not absolutely certain that the substance causing the overdoses was heroin, but they do know that drug dealers were passing out some variety of bad narcotics.

Anyone who said yes to the free offer was able to get a dose of a potentially lethal and deadly mix.

Prestina Singleton called 911 after her uncle collapsed on her floor.

"He took some of it; some of the free stuff, and he fell out," Singleton said. "(He) came in the house and he just fell out. We called the ambulance and they asked what was going on. He took some free heroin, fell out, (we) called the ambulance."

This seems like a poor business decision on the part of the drug dealers for a number of reasons.

Why bother treating them? Let social darwinism play out. The nitwits that OD need to die off in order to take them out of the gene pool. They wont reproduce and pass their defective intelligence on to a new generation. Taxpayers wont have to pay for revolving door medical treatment. Just a small cost for bagging the bodies and dumping them in a landfill. Same with meth users - let them consume all the meth they want until they drop dead. Problem solved. Plus if they're really stoned, they wont be robbing or assaulting decent people in order to get money for their next high.

Bad drugs don't cause an overdose, a miscut causes an overdose. What was handed out was likely too pure of a dose. Much more than a 14% pure shot of Heroin will cause an overdose requiring Narcan to wake up from.

Lets just hope the dealers hand out enough this time.

Wonderful sentiment for the Easter season.

It's always bad business to kill off your potential market. I assume some mid level manager is going to get the axe for this... so to speak.

I am assuming 'fell out' means collapsed, poassed out or such.

curious what toxicology tests show. probably just a more pure or not properly cut batch.

Do you also favor "all you want" for marijuana?

I do hope you are a legislator that can introduce the bill!

I can't imagine anyone "giving away" relatively pure heroine.

My guess is that it was cut with something even worse than heroine.

Like alcohol prohibition, lack of quality control is the problem. The WOD places the manufacture and distribution of drugs in the hands of criminals. Legalize and regulate drugs and the overdose rate will decrease. And violent crime will decrease significantly. The WOD is a war against people.

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP).

These are retired and active cops, DEA agents, judges, prosecutors and other justice system employees, telling it from in the trenches of the WOD. They expose the WOD for what it is; a war against people.

These people aren't rocket scientists. Some idiot who was new to the trade probably miscut the smack and then destributed it for free to build a customer base.

My guess is that it was cut with something even worse than heroine.

If he did it would have been posioning, not an overdose. The smackheads would still be in the hospital.

The article fails to mention that the 7 were treated and walked away free as birds to go look for more dope. Unless I miss my guess they were even given cab fare at the emergency rooms.

Why do we jail drunks who pass out on the street and send dopers out free as birds/
