Iran has been referred to the U.N. Security Council after failing to convince the international community that its scientists are enriching uranium for power stations, and not for weapons.

Iran has the world's 6'th largest oil reserve (89 billion barrels), so why would they be in such a rush to develop nuclear power for energy?

Just over the last few months I've done a 180 in my opinion regarding why Iran, or any oil-rich nation for that matter would want nuclear power.

It makes perfect economic sense. Don't burn oil that you could otherwise sell at a premium to oil consuming countries. The US, China, Russia are standing in line for oil.

Nuclear lasts forever. Oil may not.

Of course I don't believe that the Iranians are only going nuclear for the power, but the argument "they have so much oil why do they need nuclear?" is no longer valid.
