Iran expects atomic news on Tuesday night
Reuters | April 11, 2006

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranians will hear "good news" on their country's atomic programme on Tuesday night, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency.

"After hearing all the good news tomorrow (Tuesday) night, Iranians should prostrate themselves before almighty God," he said in the northeastern city of Mashhad on Monday night.

A conservative newspaper close to key officials has speculated the news would be that Iran had enriched uranium to the 3.5 percent level needed for fuel to run nuclear power stations.

A reporter for the Arabic-language Al Arabiya satellite channel said Iran had already successfully achieved this level of enrichment, but did not give a source.

Iranian officials could not immediately comment on this report.

Iran has been referred to the U.N. Security Council after failing to convince the international community that its scientists are enriching uranium for power stations, and not for weapons.

I wonder if "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have enriched uranium to the level necessary to run power plants" in Persian reads "President Bush, we've built a bomb" when translated into English.

Its only a question of time before Iran gets the bomb and they're not doing all this uranium enrichment just to generate electric power.

Ahmadinejad: Tomorrow night, Iranians would be delighted hearing good news (Part II)

President Ahmadinejad said, "Despite being faced with sanctions for 27 years, restrictions, economic and propagation pressure, the Iranians have now achieved success in the field of basic cells, aerospace engineering, and producing nuclear energy."

He added, "Our enemies suddenly opened their eyes and noticed that we had achieved those high peaks of sciences and technology.

"Today, some countries have not only deviated from peaceful purposes in the field of nuclear energy, but also manufactured the nuclear bomb, and that is no place for concern for the superpowers." President Ahmadinejad said, "When a nation wishes to gain its rights the key word to its success is resistance and achieving divine ideals is impossible without tolerating hardships, being faced with pressure, and confrontation with lots of plots."

Praising the martyrs and the war disabled veterans, he said, "This government is determined not to chant any slogans without making sure that the vowed promises would be kept," adding, "I hope in my next visit of this province the employment, housing and medical problems of the martyrs and war disabled veterans' families would be fully solved.

Part 1 of the IRNA article -

Ahmadinejad: Tomorrow night, Iranians would be delighted hearing good news

Mashhad, April 11, IRNA - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here on Monday night, "By grace of God and to the grandeur of Imam Reza (PBUH) the entire Iranian nation would be delighted hearing good news tomorrow night.

Addressing the families of Mashhad martyrs and war disabled veterans, Ahmadinejad added, "After hearing the entire good news tomorrow night the Iranians should prostrate before Almighty Allah, since it would be high time for thanks given to Him."

He added, "By grace of Allah and relying on brave resistance of you, the families of the revolution's martyrs and war disabled veterans our enemies cannot do a damned thing in their confrontation with us, and they know this very well."

Further stressing that "They know they cannot do a damned thing, the president said, "The thirty-day moratorium, too, is in fact a time they have given to themselves, since what do we have to halt here, save for abandoning our absolute right?"

He added, "We are the only country in the world whose entire (nuclear) activities are under the supervision of the (International Atomic Energy) Agency and they are liars in their claim that we have breached (the rules), since we conduct all our activities openly." The President said, "We invite them to come here and see everything personally," adding, "We have no hard feelings for any one."

Ahmadinejad added, "We have a legal right, based on the laws written by they themselves, and we would proceed based on those laws, and if there needs to be any restrictions, it should be for them, not for us."

Ahmadinejad added, "The Iran crisis they talk about does not exist in Iran, but is a crisis for those who are confronting us and the strong Iranian nation is relying on its faith and its scientific achievements capable of defending itself.

"Since we have an Islamic-democratic system it would soon become a very popular model for many other nations in the world and that is what our enemies are scared of."

He added, "Iran's scientific and economic advancement equates broadening the Islamic Republic's cultural and political influence and they fear lest Iran would conquer the highest peaks at the international scene rapidly."

He said, "If we achieve the nuclear technology we will be needless of the nuclear weapons because in order to become a big power Iran is not in need of the nuclear bomb."

The President said, "Other nations, too, would be delighted to see that we have mastered the entire nuclear technology and that is what the world nations' politicians tell us in their meetings with us." More...

"Good news" on Tuesday night?

Not for the thousands of Islamofascists tuned in to "Iranian Idol"!

Iran has the world's 6'th largest oil reserve (89 billion barrels), so why would they be in such a rush to develop nuclear power for energy?

Isn't Mashhad the city that had the big anti-American rally last year? The largest since the revolution? Mashhad has some kind of spiritual pull for Ahmadinejad ... is it the home of the Mahdi or something?

Yeah, that's always my first thought: hear good news, do a belly flop down in the mud and whine and beg a moon god to find me, worm that I am, worthy of being saved and existing forever in the company of 72 white raisins...

Just over the last few months I've done a 180 in my opinion regarding why Iran, or any oil-rich nation for that matter would want nuclear power.

It makes perfect economic sense. Don't burn oil that you could otherwise sell at a premium to oil consuming countries. The US, China, Russia are standing in line for oil.

Nuclear lasts forever. Oil may not.

Of course I don't believe that the Iranians are only going nuclear for the power, but the argument "they have so much oil why do they need nuclear?" is no longer valid.

Could Iran's intent be any clearer?  Considering the history of  the past 27 years, the Mullahs really don't need a "nuclear bomb" -- the threat of one will be sufficient to keep the West doing the Jack Straw tapdance to hell.

No, but it is where Ahmadinejad saved a whole lotta money on his camel insurance with GEICO.

Seriously now, Mashhad is supposed to be the "holiest" city in Iran, earning the saying (origin unknown):

"...the rich go to Mecca but the poor journey to Mashhad"

I would be quite surprised if Ahmadinejad was going to merely announce an improvement in utility services for the average Iranian family.

If their nuclear ambitions were peaceful, they would not have spent millions building underground nuclear facilities. When you combine nuclear ambitions with hardened facilities, there is one and only one conclusion.

From DEBKA

He did not disclose its content. DEBKAfile reports he intends to disclose as an accomplished fact that Iran has completed the process of uranium enrichment. Tehran’s intention is to force the International Atomic Energy Agency and the world to recognize that Iran has joined the international atomic energy club.

The announcement is embarrassingly due as five IAEA nuclear inspectors, who arrived last Friday, April 7, scour Iran for concealed enrichment sites. It is a slap in the face for the watchdog’s director Mohamed ElBaradei, who is expected later this week.

According to our Iranian sources, the word going round the majlis in Tehran is that the head of Iran’s nuclear energy agency Gholamreza Aghazadeh is about to deliver news of a “great achievement.” Some sources expect the achievement to consist of success in purifying uranium to 3.5%, which is still below the 8-9% level of nuclear fuel and far less than the 80% for weapons-grade fuel.

Nonetheless, Iran’s ability to enrich sufficient uranium to fuel its reactors without having to rely on imports is a significant breakthrough which opens the way for improved results.

To preserve the secrecy of the enrichment site, the Iranians will no doubt claim that have achieved success in laboratory conditions. The Iranian president’s announcement is a serious rebuff to the UN Security Council’s efforts to persuade Iran to give up its attempts to enrich uranium.

Good news . . . followed by a big explosion and destruction of all nuclear facilities within the year (or even sooner), courtesy of the US and/or Israel.
