Cutting-Edge Sinus Treatment Offers New Hope

April 6, 2006 — It's an annual rite of passage for those who suffer from seasonal allergies: sinuses so blocked it's difficult to breathe, a recurring headache, a feeling of constant "pressure" on the face.

But for people like Michele Lynch who suffer from chronic sinusitis, allergy season seems to last all year. "I couldn't work. You can't breathe. I couldn't sleep," she said.

Lynch, 24, had suffered from sinusitis most of her life — the result of abnormal bone growth in her sinuses. But a few weeks ago, doctors suggested she try a radically new treatment that's been available in the United States only since December.

The procedure, called balloon sinuplasty, opens sinus cavities the same way doctors open clogged arteries when they do a balloon angioplasty.

Yup. I do like saline. The doc says I have bone malformation which is why I have all these stupid issues. That's why I'm so excited by this procedure!

I'm not going to argue with you! I feel exactly the same way!

Until somebody goes ten years with a stuffy nose, they have no idea how distressing it actually is. My main issue with Afrin is that it's so costly. That's why I have a 4 bottle a month maximum. (I may actually only use 2, but I need to keep my backups! lol!)

I actually had endoscopic nasal surgery, (@ $10,000) and during that they got rid of my deviated septum.....but they also found 3 polyps that were blocking spaces.....but, in the end my sinus problems were NOT cured....it took changing my diet to fix them.

Hello, I am the clown that created the balloon ghost you so graciously posted. I am honored. However; there are a few corrections to be made regarding your post. This particular balloon created uses 2 (350q's), 1 (646q), 1 (5in round), 3 (260q's) and 2 (160q's). Time to create this sculpture: 10-12 minutes. If you do the math, the answer multiplied far beyond 5 cents. Actually check out some of the other creations found on http://www.aBalloonArtist.com or even http://www.BalloonHQ.com you will see that balloon twisting known maybe in your day has come a long way. The bar has been risen. Balloon sculpting (twisting, shaping, etc.) is recognized as an art. Yes, there are still those who give the profession a bad name, but heck, that is in any industry. carmen@charmandhappy.com (proud creator of the funky ghost balloon you posted)
