So where, in the article, does he claim to be a "Darwinist."
"Pianka is so weird. I counldn't stand him at first. I thought he was arrogant and racist but then I learned that he's just upset at us Homo sapiens and he's equally predjudiced to all classes of people. This class was hard! Tests were real hard. You have to study so in depth -- it takes a lot of time. Still, it was fun and very interesting and has many applications in life -- makes you look at life differently. This class was a worthwhile rollercoaster."
" Dr. Pianka, Very interesting lectures. You were intimidating enough to make me actually listen. This class elaborated a lot on former evolution classes I have taken. I definately won't have a ton of kids now, to keep the population down for the good of the future planet."
"Prof. Pianka is an excellent professor. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a lecture as much as his. He is opinionated, and I really enjoyed that. Not enough profs are so willing to express their beliefs so openly and bluntly."
Your class has opened my mind and made me aware of the evil that is anthropocentrism . . . ."
"Although this course was demanding, I now have a better idea of how ecology serves as an important subject in the evaluation of human behavior. This course was so thick with information concerning animals and lizards that the human race is threatening every day in exponential terms, it makes one really sad to realize how distant humans have evolved from other creatures on Earth . . . ."
(Darwinism=good religion)
He should lead by example and be the first volunteer.
I don't think world population will reach 10 billion. Famine, desertification, energy depletion, war, aids and other plagues will devastate the third world. What's left of Norte America won't be worth spit.
?What about other sentient animals? Our closest relatives are chimpanzees and gorillas. We dont treat them very well."
Did you read the entire article?
It will if population continues to follow projections. If population doesn't follow projections for whatever reason, it won't. It looks right now like it will, but the day is not over.
And we're not low on resources. We have enough to feed the entire population several times over and have the technology available to produce more. Actually, one of the main things stopping us from producing more is the libs objection to using effective pesticides in 3rd World Countries (because starvation is a much better alternative). The worry about running out of resources started prior to the agricultural revolution, and propagandists still like to use it as an excuse today.
In all honesty, the best way to reduce to world's population is to educate women. Education leads to lower birth rates.
"This was the most fulfilling class I have had in UT yet. They should make it mandatory!"
"I really enjoyed the Eco-Poetry and your perspective on ecology and biology in general. Every Biology and even non-Biology major should take this class."
"I didn't ever want the last day of class to come. This course has been more valuable to my education and to my life in general than probably any other class at UT. The passion with which Pianka teaches is inspiring. As a keeper at the Austin Zoo/Animal Sanctuary, this course has given me a new outlook and greater respect towards the environment that I help to foster there. I never skipped class, knowing if I did I might miss something fascinating. Thank you, Dr. Pianka, for finally opening my eyes and mind to the world I live in."
"Being of the same mindset as you, Dr. Pianka, I greatly appreciate your dedication to educating the university's undergrads about the plight of the earth and how wholly it is underscored by economic goals and successes. The only path to change is education."
IQs have been falling ever since atheism and secular humanism were granted a monopoly over the public educations of the young.

What are you guys going on about? 10 billion? So what? The current population, even with the manmade famines in tinpot third world hellholes is eating at the highest level of calories ever. And projections of food production go much higher than population growth. Much of our food is wasted now, anyway. They said it at 3 billion, they said it at 4 billion, and so on. You might follow some different projections. Ones that make a little more sense.
> The entire world population could fit into NYC and each person would still have more room than the average NYer. You can calculate it yourself if you like.
LOL You ever been to the Big Apple?
> And we're not low on resources.
So you enjoy paying $2.49 a gallon?
> The worry about running out of resources started prior to the agricultural revolution, and propagandists still like to use it as an excuse today.
Propagandists for whom and excuses for what?
> In all honesty, the best way to reduce to world's population is to educate women. Education leads to lower birth rates.
Birth control and family planning lower birth rates. Shhh don't tell anyone on Free Republic.
Want to argue with a mathematical model? This isn't malthus, it's just simple population equations. Plug in current rates and rate of rate change and the number falls out. It's math, not famine, pestilence, disease, and war. Just math.
> This is where darwinist faith leads. Isn't pretty, is it?
WTF has this thread got to do with Darwin?
> If population doesn't follow projections [to reach 10B this century] for whatever reason, it won't. It looks right now like it will, but the day is not over.
More like, a decent life on this planet is not over. Yet.
We're actually doing better than ever at the moment. There are storm clouds, but aren't there always?
"You need to hone your survival skills. The first thing you should do when you go home tonight is get a real tarp, one that's made out of canvas that's waterproof. Don't get one of those dumb plastic ones. They deteriorate too fast. And start packing it with the absolute necessities that you think you have to have for life. And that would include like a blanket and some sharp knives and some string and some twine.
"I'm not talking toothpaste. I'm not talking a lot of things. And you wrap it up and figure out how you can carry it on your own two shoulders because you are not going to be able to take public transport or drive your car when the time comes. And then you want to get as far away as you can from any other human being. And try to snare a rabbit, if there is still a rabbit out there.
"I can give you some other tips on your survival kit, but I don't have time."
I'm from NY, love, but what does that have to do with the discussion?
So you enjoy paying $2.49 a gallon?
Do you honestly think petroleum is the only solution? There are numerous sources out there, and America is finally grasping that. Self-sufficiency is always the best solution, IMHO.
Propagandists for whom and excuses for what?
Since I was talking about the myth of overpopulation, naturally I was referring to advocates of population reduction and their continuous rhetoric about running out of resources.
Birth control and family planning lower birth rates. Shhh don't tell anyone on Free Republic.
So youd rather simply hand out birth control and tear out fetuses of ignorant women than attempt to educate them first? Personally I cant imagine birth control working that well unless women are educated. If they dont have much of a future, then shooting out babies is one of the few contributions they feel they can make.
Where does he think everybody is going to go? The woods are going to be crowded if the cities empty, and the woods don't have city water or sewer. It's going to get nasty out there.
