Have them contact Constituent services at both of their Senator's office and their US House Representative. Nothing makes bureaucrats sit up and bark like a call from a US Senator's office inquiring about a Vet's case.

Apply for SS Disability or SSS. If they (SS) get ahold of the VA, there has to be some kind of answers given. Is this kid on Service connected disability?
