I've thought of this as a solution, as well. I'd bet, however, that the leftists and illegal alien apologists in the government would use environmental/endangered species laws or some such as a pretext to stop landowners from building such a fence.
Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!

Be Ever Vigilant!
I think that's already been mentioned as a "problem" with building the fence. It ranks right up there with "a fence would send the wrong message to Mexico".
I think you answered your own question when you ended the paragraph. You're not the only one who'd stay home or (better yet) vote third-party. I think a lot of Republican politicians are acutely aware of that. It's just that more of them need to be made more aware of it.
Because that's what we're going to get if this amnesty of illegals and subsequent massive increase in Mexican legal migration gets through.
After the surrender of 2006, there will never be a reduction in the Mexican and other 3rd-world influx. Never. In fact there is unlikely even to be a halt to its yearly acceleration.
Because if we and our "leaders" are already cowed by pressures such as this week's anti-sovereignty rallies, however, will they stand up the demands of a far larger Mexican colony five or ten years from now?
No, the lay-down of 2006 is a signal as clear as 1776 that a new political order has been declared on the North American continent -- though this time the declaration is that we are no longer "One people", and that political and other bands again connect a controlling number of our separate peoples with "another", and that the wreckage formerly known as the USA can no longer claim a separate station among the powers of the earth.
1776-2006
Nice while it lasted.
Reid has just vowed to block any immigration bill because "the minimum wage bill was not voted on".
What a disappointment, but i shouldn't be surprised. Our elected officials(republicans and dems)are going to "compromise" this bill into a toothless farce, and we the voters are being played for chumps:(
