Judge Blames ADHD for Wrongful Arrests

Sanford, Fla. -- A judge who had 11 people arrested for accidentally going to the wrong courtroom told an ethics board he was "horrified" by what he had done and blamed the problem on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Seminole County Judge John Sloop, 57, said he hadn't been diagnosed with ADHD before the incident but now takes medicine and sees a psychologist and psychiatrist.

"I will never be able to make amends," Sloop told the Judicial Qualifications Commission during a hearing to determine his future as a judge.

The commission had issued a notice of charges last April accusing Sloop of being unfit to serve. The panel, which could fine Sloop or go so far as to recommend his removal from the bench, will now make a recommendation to the Florida Supreme Court, which will make the final decision.

Let me get this straight... he is of the belief that he has a mental problem AND thinks he's fit to continue to be a judge?

Why not? It's just another symptom of his disorder. [sarcasm].

But seriously, the guy's a piker compared to such judges as Ruth Ginsburg. Given the choice between getting her off the bench, and getting arrested by this boob, I'd go to court with my toothbrush in my pocket.

There's another common ailment that should disqualify a person to sit on the bench. LDHD, liberal deficit attention disorder.

I cannot believe there has not been a comment yet referring to "The Sloop, John B."

"...he hadn't been diagnosed with ADHD before the incident but now takes medicine and sees a psychologist and psychiatrist."

The man is 57 years old and is just now manifesting symptoms of this "disorder"??? PUH-LEAZE!! He is just another one of many who don't want to take responsibility for their own actions and are conveniently diagnosed with a disorder, disease, whatever du-jour to excuse their sorry behavior. Why not, "The devil made me do it?"

Does that mean the court has to review all the cases he sat on prior to him taking the medication?

The AP is notorious for tweaking headlines. The link on the thread that you referenced now goes to this story: Judge Blames ADHD For Hasty Arrests

ADD ADHD is NOT a mental problem...it is a hormone regulatory problem...

The real problem is the 'medicine' used to make up for neuro hormone deficiencies...

Meth....the judge is on meth....and THAT should be a problem
for those who pay his salary...

He needs to find less critical work

imo
