"Of the 39 aid calls placed over the past 12 weeks, however, seven have saved a resident's life, Hobson said."

I'm going to ask what at first glance seems to be a cold question: Why are they bothering to save these people? Here is an city and state that has been hot for years to employ euthanasia on the terminally ill, and now they have established a concentration laager for people who have overwhelmingly demonstrated that they want to die, as painlessly as possible. I say get a 55 gallon drum of Everclear, put it in the lobby, and wait 24 hours. These people will either choose to quit, (yeah, right...), or drink until their heartbeat is suppressed down to once a week. It's a win-win deal.

I kenw an alcoholic who felt the same way. He did not want to live, at least he gave the appearance of it. He got his wish, after he died at the age of 50 despite medical advise that if he did not quit, he would die. He had conquered a drug problem and felt that just having an alcohol problem was progress. According to my friend, toward the end he said to just dump him in the dumpster. So sad; he could have had a lot going for him due to the fact that he was smart, good looking, funny, had a good job, lots of friends.
