Reid Threatens Filibuster over Immigration Bill

Reid Threatens Filibuster on ImmigrationAs the Senate prepares to tackle the most sweeping immigration reforms in years, a top Democrat vowed Wednesday to do everything in his power, including filibuster, to thwart Majority Leader Bill Frist's proposed overhaul.

Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he would "use every procedural means at my disposal" to prevent Frist from bypassing the Judiciary Committee. Frist, R-Tenn., has made clear the Senate will take up his proposal next week if the 18-member committee fails to complete a broader bill.

"If Leader Frist brings a bill to the floor that does not have the approval of the Judiciary Committee, it will not get out of the Senate," Reid told reporters at the San Ysidro border crossing, a few steps from Tijuana, Mexico.

Bob Stevenson, a spokesman for Frist, did not immediately respond to a call Wednesday evening.

Yeah, they threaten "filibuster" if they don't like what is on the Capitol menu that day.

And they already know the Nuclear Option is loaded and primed and ready for use.

So Dingy Harry can bluster all he wants. But he will filibuster nothing.

It's a setup. The RATS will stop anything, short of full citizenship and voting rights for all illegals, so they can tell Hispanics how racist and hate filled the PUBS are.

Does it matter? I seriously doubt a truly effective bill will be passed anyway. It will take another 9/11 or a politicians kid to be killed before they get serious about the borders IMO. Politicians have made it very clear in their words/actions that they have no interest in truly stopping the flow. Since most Americans don't follow the issue real closely the politicians are able to talk a lot without doing much at all.

Two weeks after Katrina, Harry Reid threw his support behind the illegal aliens who were taking rebuilding jobs that should have gone to American hurricane victims.

Earlier today, Reid should have stepped over the line and started a new career as a Mexican Senator.

BTW, he's got a blog that accepts comments, but the comments degenerate into a food fight and I doubt whether anyone other than those throwing food read the comments:

Right.

The tipping point was probably reach 10 years ago. Now its all over but the shoutin'. The Democrats will never sign on to anything effective as they view illegals as just another constituency.

Liberals are not really bothered by illegal aliens. The stuff about unions worrying about cheap labor is nonsense. The Dems have the union vote forever.

This is a loser the PUBS. Our base stays mad and doesn't turn out in big numbers because nothing got done. The Rat base is happy that they beat the PUBS.

We are in a bad position on this issue. A bad bill will get the PUB base really mad and the RATS won't let a good bill thru.

Over 80% of the population wants border control. Let the fools filibuster for their lunatic base, and lose big time in 2006 and 2008. Democrats, the gift of stupidity that keeps on giving, and the main reason for voting for Republicans -- who are only shortly behind them.

Totally wrong. This is a huge political gift for the Republicans.

A filibuster means, politically, that the Democrats are accepting 100% of the blame for the broken immigration system.

GO AHEAD! FILIBUSTER!

The longest filibuster on record is only 24 hours! Do it, Harry! DO IT!

The Senate Judiciary Committee is going full bore towards an amnesty. Frist's bill, according to what I've read will up the number of newbies to 2.5 million per year.

CALL TOMMORROW, the debate goes to the Senate on Monday next week.

Be careful. We thought the same thing in California, and Governor Pete Wilson got his a$$ handed to him. The state Republicans got destroyed.

Sure....

Since I doubt this bill is worth the paper it's printed on in ensuring enforcement of our laws, does anyone really care if Reid blocks it? Other than McCain & Kennedy perhaps...

If anything not allowing passage of a bad bill probably helps Reps. People that care about the issue are already mad. But the issue is currently stalled in place. No more damage is going to come from doing nothing politically. Doing something, but doing the wrong thing, refuels opposition and causes another fight among the GOP's base.

Reid would frankly be doing the GOP a favor, as well hurting the Dems attempts to claim they can be trusted on the border as Napalitano and Richardson have been trying to establish.

There is more to this.

There is another, more unsettling story unravelling that will probably come out next week. It will show just how disgusting Senate politics are.

The Frist immigration bill, the best of the bad Senate proposals is just a placemarker. It will be pulled when the Specter bill clears the Judiciary Committee. Source for this is a network news acquaintance and a Frist aide.

Harry Reid will threaten a filibuster to delay things until the Specter bill clears Judiciary. (Flash!! This just came true as per Drudge and this thread!)

The Specter bill is essentially a pure amnesty bill almost equal to Kennedy-McCain. Once again, the elitist cheap labor Senate Republicans will put it to us.

You saw it here first.
