yup, funny thing is a slim-jim will open up just about 100% of the cars out there, regardless of the lock system. I know a tow truck driver or two and they knew of some guys that had chop shops.
What's wierd is that motorcycles aren't stolen more often, they are even easier.
It's a huge problem over in England, and the police don't even bother to try to solve the crimes. The bikes are simply loaded up into a van and carted off. There's a huge business for things to keep your bike bolted to the ground over there, but even those have their limits.
I read a motorcycle magazine article a few years back about a number of bike owners who were tired of having their bikes stolen with no help from the police, and they began taking matters into their own hands. They'd "plant" a bike in an out of the way place, and 5 or 6 of them would be waiting in a nearby van. When a few guys would come around and begin loading the bike into their van, the "good guys" would pour out of the van, in masks, grab the theives, and beat them severely, leaving them with broken bones (ribs, arms, and or legs). I'm not kidding, I'm talking about beating them with iron pipes. After a week or two, the remaining theives would move on to other areas, and so would "the good guys."
Frankly, I think that it's the fault of the police. While I'm no fan of vigilante justice, when the police refuse to do their job, sometimes you just have to take action on your own.
As easy as a hammer to a flat head screwdriver...and twist! LOL!
