Maybe China is better example of what happens when capitalist forces are unleashed.

The Communist Manifesto says:

"In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property."
Not only the Communist Chinese leaders have ditched the main tenet of Communism, they have gone even further in allowing partial foreign ownership of Chinese companies, or what they used to call "neocolonialism" and "imperialism."

In order to keep up with the times, the Chinese constitution has been changed to allow for private property, inheritance of private property, and even compensation when private property is seized by the state.

If you look at the American economic landscape, you will realize that we have a tight labor market; many employers are competing for a limited pool of labor to the point that the unemployment rate is below the natural rate in many states. Will the capitalists give up the opportunity to provide services and products?

Mexico has zillions of healthy, young workers ready to move North and take those jobs. Will the capitalists refuse to hire Mexican workers because these workers don't have papers? Or will the capitalists lobby Congress to change the laws?

"the unemployment rate is below the natural rate in many states"

Then they should get the labor from the states where the rate is above the natural rate, no?

And I'll leave alone your "natural" unemployment rate 'cept to say I haven't heard anyone use that theory in ages!

Oh please. The Chinese Maoists only allow "private property" because:

1) they can take it or the "owner" any time they want

2) they know by observing us that they can seize more from a larger output than a larger share of a smaller output

The Chinese leaders have sold themselves further into corruption. They want a bigger economic pie so they can skim more for their personal benefit. Twas ever thus when the form of government is totalitarian/authoritarian.

When the welfare roles are empty I'll know our labor markets are tight. When 40+ yo folk are fully employed, I'll agree with you. I see a lot of underemployed highly-skilled people who cannot get better employment BECAUSE employers are looking for those $10 an hour or less workers. It's why they go outsource the work and whine in Congress for more H1B visas. Used to be, if an employer needed a skill that no one in the company had, and the employer couldn't find it to hire, they would pick a good employee and send them for training. And now ? Work goes overseas or to the low-rent illegal folks. Ask any 40-something engineer or programmer - age discrimination is alive and well in the US.
