CA: Bond includes 'green' money - Environmental causes large part of spending plan

Sacramento -- A giant bond proposal being weighed by state lawmakers has far more in it than billions of dollars to build schools and highways and strengthen California's levees.

Restoration of the Salton Sea, retrofitting diesel school buses, acquiring land and creating urban parks are a few examples of spending included in the most recent version of the bond, which would go before voters in June if lawmakers and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger can work out a deal in the next couple of days.

"Protection of environmental resources is as much of a long-term investment in California's future as is the construction of public works that provide water or improve transportation or schools," said Tom Graff, regional director of the Environmental Defense Fund in Oakland.

The Senate was slated to meet late Friday night to possibly vote on the proposal, despite Republican opposition -- part of it stemming from some of the bond's spending priorities.

Even if the Senate approves the bond of at least $30 billion, the Assembly is not scheduled to meet until Monday. Lawmakers say Monday is their deadline to place the measure on the June ballot.

While most of the money in the most current draft of the bond is for school construction and modernization, congestion-relief on highways and flood-control projects, Democrats added several billion worth of "green" spending.

"Parks and ocean protection, and especially deferred maintenance, which is almost $1 billion in our state parks, are part of infrastructure because they represent permanent holdings people use. That's what infrastructure is," said Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica and chairwoman of the Natural Resources and Water Committee.

I want to record here for posterity that GANG-GREEN put together a total monster of an initiative in 1994 that they put in every pagan wish for funding of every green project they could possibly come up with. They qualified it for the June Primary election ballot under the name "CALPAW."

Not only was it thumped at the polls in a huge defeat, but it really woke up a lot of Californians to the massive agenda of GovernMental EnvironMentalists. They have simply used that measure as a piecemeal pattern of measures that they have added little by little, incrementally over the past decade.

My venom toward Arnold Schwartzenegger is NOT based on sour grapes because I did NOT vote for him! It is based on the fact that I have personally fought fiercely over the past decade even to the loss of my personal fortunes against these many and several EnvironMental groups and their openly confrontational agenda against free enterprise, free markets and property rights... And now the first thing Arnold does is give them a GOVERNMENT AGENCY called the Sierra-Nevada CONservancy that covers 1/5th of CA!!!

Here now we see a further manifestation of the balance of their unfulfilled wishlist and Governor Schwartzenegger just about cheerfully handing it to them when it is largely their damned fault that true traditional "infrastructure" has been so totally stalled out in this state!!!

They had the same success to a much lesser degree when pseudo Republican Governor Pete Wilson was in office. Many believe (and some know) they made their case to both Wilson and Schwartzenegger families immediately after both were elected with a gratis whitewater rafting trip down the South Fork of the American River that powers and waters Sacramento but by-passes the county it flows through to the terrible detriment economically of that county.

The time spent lobbying those Governors in eddy pools during those rafting trips have made CA EnvironMental Not-for-Profit groups extremely wealthy and powerful to the benefit of the CA Democrat Party and the direct detriment of the CA Repulican Party. This can be proven if anyone was willing to take the time to research it.

So here we have another wet dream proposal by the very groups that would destroy us. Is it brought to us as a compromise? Is it brought to us as a well reasoned arguement? Is it offered up as a clarion call to action? No!

It comes to us at the midnight hour, with excuses and inuendo. It comes to us dressed as the answer to our problems, when in fact, it sows the seeds of our demise. It rewards the corrupt, and penalizes the faithfull.

What is really pathetic, is the traitor who champions this. A man who rode into office on the horse of change, vowing to "sweep clean" the capitol, now hides behind the cloak of secrecy known as the "gang of five".

May God have mercy on the citizens of this State if this crap is passed into law.

Actually, I think Arnold has gotten himself into another Lose/Lose shituation!!!

If he gits this dumb deal, the people are gonna do to it AND HIM, what they did to that old 1994 Prop 180, the "CALPAW" debacle, and Arnold, along with the stupid CA GOP will be swept away in a landslide of historic proportions.

Then, when all the "New Majority" FReepers come on here to bemoan the fact that Phil Angelides got another Gray Davis landslide, they'll deny that Arnold, and their own GOP big tent controllers and themselves, had anything to do with the whole debacle!!!

Yep! That's exactly what they'll do when that happens!!! Actually, I still believe Arnold will fold up his tent before that happens, leaving them all in the lurch!!!

Good information in your #62, Wasp. While I have picked up a piece or two in the past, I had no idea as to just how dedicated and successful the green lobby has been.

Having lived through most of this up close and personal is what has caused so much of my heated rhetoric toward the mindless Hollywood "Ginninator!"
