from the first hours of the fanatical regime of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979, "Iran declared war on us in language it seems impossible to misunderstand."

Iran is indeed a threat and there is a lot of good information in this article. But this statement is an overstatement. Taking the embassy was indeed an act of war. But that was 25 years ago. And it came to an end when Reagan took office. And Reagan did not invade Iran in 1980. So apparently he did not think we were at war with Iran after the hostages were released. Now they are uttering threats and destablizing Iraq but they have not attacked the U.S. -- yet. It's only recently that they could be considered to have "declared war on us". They have certainly hated us since the Shah was thrown out. But hating us is not the same as declaring war. One could certainly argue we never got even for the embassy takeover however.

"...But hating us is not the same as declaring war..."

The niceties of "declaring war" have been dispensed with, to give Western politicians an excuse to look the other way and essentially do nothing. In the meantime 233 marines were killed in 1983 in Lebanon, 19 more in Saudi Arabia in 1995, dozens of individuals killed by Palestinian and Lebanese terrorists, all inspired by and supported by Iran.

If you consider Al Quaeda as more than just inspired by Iran's successes in exporting terrorism, we come to today, all without the diplomatic neatness of a declaration of war. But war is killing, and killing is what they are gradually doing more and more of.

Our leaders want peace, and so they are willing to delude themselves into thinking that peace can be achieved by simply wishing for it, by negotiation, or with appeasment and retreat. They are handing the Mullahs in Tehran what they want, a gradual buildup to World War.

If we foolishly elect a Hillary, or some other appeasment candidate in 2008, we can count on that regional to World War before the end of the decade. Weakness, like a President Kerry would display by collapsing at the feet of our corrupt "allies" and the UN, is the spur that Ahmadinejad and Ali Khamenei need to recklessly plunge their country into a suicidal war against the west.

BS! Who do you think was behind the Marine barracks bombing in Lebanon and the Kobar Tower bombings, etc. It was Iran. They restarted the Shah's secret nuclear program right after he was overthrown heading for the day they can nuke the Great Satan. Think about how long they have been 'after' the Great Satan.

came to an end with Reagan???

Iran created Hizbollah, Hizbollah killed 241 Marines, Sailors and Soldies in Beirut under Reagan...WHO DID NOTHING

Ended? It got alive and kicking under Reagan, we all need to admit it. Look at Lebanon and all the terror groups that sprang up in the 80's.
