That should come as no surprise. Virtually the entire democratic party is willing to see thousands of Iraqis die to bring down Bush's poll numbers. Not a nice bunch of people.
I have been SO convinced that Mike Brown just had to take the fall-guy role because he and Chertoff just didn't hit it off. But the point of these transcripts are that everyone was doing their best. Katrina happens. Due to negligence primararily at the local level, it was bad. They did the best they could. As far as FEMA being pulled out, BAD IDEA. When you do disaster planning, you are doing the same kind of planning you do for terrorist hits. The problem is that Chertoff and Brown couldn't get their bureaucracies together...do we ALL remember when the Huge Department of Homeland Security was the big push of the 'RATS? And we went along because it was one of the precious 9/11 Commission recommendations? Well, you created a bureaucratic monsters. Now, the right leadership can cut the Red Tape, but only if folks are on the same page themselves. I'm in a thousand person company and I have seen first hand how a reluctant manager can just clog up the works...

They were too busy checking if they could be sued, then Nagin asked for a voluntary evac. Bush called the mandatory first after Mayfield and the Hurricane Center told them they called Blanco and Nagin several times and they wouldn't order the mandatory evac.
As far as Bush knowing it... who didn't? Did the local government (considering Hurr. Pam study and the sorry Plan they wrote up, then was told it wouldn't work... change it), know... maybe it's me, but they live there.

Yes, I would just turn the whole argument from thinking (like W did after 9/11) and THEN hitting Afghanistan; the DUmmies just want to set up more government which won't and can't work..
He did not know the meaning of 'is', so what can yu expect. In some ways, we are paying for those 8 years of darkness - 9/11, WOT, etc. What amazes me is that the dims STILL don't get it.
I don't think I ever heard a significant story about how the FED government was kept from helping faster, because of laws that require a Governor to REQUEST help, before it can be made available...
