They say blonds have more fun, and now a Canadian anthropologist says it's been happening for over 10,000 years.
The population of blond women grew rapidly at the end of the last ice age because their looks got them noticed at a time of male scarcity in northern and eastern Europe, says Peter Frost, who is associated with St. Andrews University in Scotland.
Food was also in short supply, which made men more choosy as they cut down on the mouths they had to feed by selecting fewer mates, his study says.
The blond gene had begun in Europe as a rare mutation, but it proved a key to survival for women who possessed it as the dangers of ice-age hunting increased male fatalities.

Better not let the GEICO Cavemen hear you...........
I love the GEICO Cavemen. The glaring Caveman of the "We didn't know you guys were still around..." ad reminded me of every "offended" minority and/or race hustler I've ever seen.
evo PING
Many people may think of that as just another cheesey commercial, but the actor who plays the caveman with the menu is really good. The glaring eyes full of anger are just stunning. Take note next time you see it. His mannerisms and demeanor are outstanding............
If Maria Sharapova is available... :-)
Spot on. I was not quite able to articulate why I stopped and paid attention to that commercial each time it came on, you nailed it for me.
If Frost actually has evidence to back up this speculation, the newspaper article failed to provide it.
I'm sorry -- we're out of the duck with the mango salsa.
Out of curiousity, I went to BuyBlue.Org to see Geico's political contributions. Warren Buffet is listed within the company bio but 94% of the contributions listed go to Republicans:

GEICO has found that driving down costs brings drivers by the droves into its fold. A wholly owned subsidiary of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, GEICO has traditionally provided auto and other insurance to preferred low-risk demographic groups (such as government and military employees) but has also begun to sell to nonstandard (high-risk) drivers. In addition to auto coverage, the company's offerings include motorcycle insurance and emergency road service. GEICO eschews agents in favor of direct marketing through such vehicles as direct mail, TV, radio, and the Internet.
Not all dumbs are blond!
Then there's the other guy who just ignores it all ~ time to eat!
"I'll have a blond moment please."
It looks to me that the actor is Val Kilmer but I don't know for sure, just an impression I got.
He's not ignoring anything; the two represent the "hostile" personality and the "passive agressive" personality, and to a certain extent, both appear to be "metrosexuals". They are intended to make the "cavemen" look more sophisticated in a 21st century sense.
I laugh histerically whenever I see that commercial. My wife, sadly, has yet to get the joke (and not because she's dumb).
Glad someone asked. We have rules to enforce around here...
