The fuzziness you seem to be speaking of appears to relate to abiogenesis. Do I understand you correctly? If so, you do know, I'm sure, that abiogenesis is not part of the theory of evolution.
As far as hucksters go, they're in every line of work. I try to avoid painting the large majority of forthright people in their various endeavors with a few extreme examples. Kind of like not trying to paint Christianity with the likes of Swaggert and Bakker.

If you noticed, I prefaced evolution of the simple single cell out of the primordial soup (right after the moment of abiogenesis)...It should have been obvious to you that I understand that abiogenesis is not considered to be encompassed by the TOE.
I wasn't referring to the hucksters...I was reffering to the believers that are on a mission; not a scientific endeavor. These believers are the ones that are so succeptible to e said hucksters.
