BAGHDAD, Iraq - Al-Qaida in Iraq's leader in northern Baghdad was killed in a raid Friday, the U.S. military said.

The military identified Abu Asma, also known as Abu Anas and Akram Mahmud al-Mushhadani, as an explosives expert with close ties to important car bomb manufacturers in Baghdad.

He died in a northern Baghdad raid conducted by coalition forces with the help of Iraqi police, a military statement said.

"Intelligence reports indicated Abu Asma was in possession of and expected to use suicide vests against the Iraqi people and security forces," the statement said. "He was directly responsible for many deaths and injuries of coalition and Iraqi security forces."

No further details were provided.

Al Qaeda Leader Killed in Raid; Weapons Cache Discovered

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Feb. 24, 2006 – An al Qaeda military leader was killed today during a raid in Baghdad, and U.S. soldiers discovered a weapons cache Feb. 22, Multinational Force Iraq officials said.

A raid in northern Baghdad by coalition forces, with assistance from Iraqi police, resulted in the death of Abu Asma, the al Qaeda "military emir of northern Baghdad." Intelligence reports indicated Abu Asma was in possession of and expected to use suicide-bomber vests against Iraqi civilians and security forces.

Abu Asma, also known as Abu Anas and Akram Mahmud Al Mushhadani, was an explosives expert with close ties to senior Baghdad-based car-bomb manufacturers. Officials said he was directly responsible for many deaths and injuries among coalition and Iraqi security forces.

In other news, soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, located a weapons cache Feb. 22 south of Baghdad. Three caches had been discovered in the same area during previous searches.

The cache consisted of 60, 80 and 120 mm mortar rounds, rockets, 155 mm artillery rounds, a 60 mm tube, and 60 mm base plates. An explosives disposal team destroyed the cache in a controlled detonation.

Abu Assman? Abu Anus?

Good choices, man.

Another "Al-Qaida leader" - must be something like "Bank Vice-President" in this country.

Very short matter-of-fact news article from AP (the Democrats Attack Dog). Totally devoid of the any analysis such as the endless doom and gloom routine we normally get abused with whenever there is not so good news.

I thought Slick Willie was his new brother.

H.W. might have adopted Slick...but here is a pic of his biological father (accordingly to the Arkansas political grapevine).

It explains alot about Clinton's youthful meeting with JFK,

the scholarship named after Clinton's daddy that was received, etc.

Slick's mom was tight with Fulbright? Sounds implausible but I guess most anything could have been going on among that Hot Springs bunch.

Unless you count his father, Slick was from the wrong side of the tracks...and didn't have the connections to move up in society. His stepfather was an alcoholic and a gambler, and mom liked to party with the Hot Springs crowd.

Common view is that a powerful politico impregnated her. Many believe it was Fulbright. Out of nowhere, Bill is suddenly meeting JFK, attending Georgetown, and working for Fulbright in D.C.

Although not conclusive, take a look at the facial features between the two. About as similar as those between Chelsea and Web Hubbell.

An explosives disposal team destroyed the cache in a controlled detonation.

I asked them to save the good stuff until July 4.
