It was to be expected that it would turn into an "us versus them" game, as in republicans v democrats. It's the oldest political game in the book. They can go on ignoring the obvious dangers of this deal in favor of Bush if they want, I'm not going to do it.
To me, the most frightening thing to witness is how so many are actually trying to downplay the connection between Islam and terrorism as part of their argument. There is a certain mindset that this country ought to have post-9/11, and many are bending over backwards to return to a 9/10 state of mind to feel better about the ports issue.
