GREAT post!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont see gramsci being discussed enough here, or the frankfurt school.

BTW

from the article: "On a different level, in the 1930s members of CPUSA (the Communist Party of the USA) got instructions from Moscow to promote non-representational art so that the US’s public spaces would become arid and ugly."

from 1963 congressional record: communist goals (listed below)
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."

"And this time, a West with a chauvinized America at its head would smite the Saracen with weapons that would destroy entire populations and fuse Mecca into glass. The horror of our victory would echo for a thousand years."

You gotta like the ring of that.

"But to do so, we have to do more than recognize Stalin’s memes; we have to reject them. We have to eject postmodern leftism from our universities, transnational progressivism from our politics, and volk-Marxism from our media."

Ain't gonna happen.

It's going to take a number of truly ground shaking events to wake this nation out of the sleep of "Diversity & Tolerance".

While the espionage apparatus of the Soviet Union didn’t outlast it, their memetic weapons did. These memes are now coming near to crippling our culture’s response to Islamic terrorism.

"A classic example is the rumor that AIDS was the result of research aimed at building a ‘race bomb’ that would selectively kill black people."

If the Soviet Union truly believed that such rumor would have worked in their favor and in the favor of Western Civilization and its people, they were truly naive, just like Hitler was naive by killing tens of millions of Christians.

Let us never forget that Hillary Clinton is this country's most powerful and well-known Gramscian, an acolyte of the 60's radical Saul Alinsky. Her entire life has been devoted to the "Long March through the institutions."

Over the years, the likes of Hillary have infested the universities and every other educational establishment, practically all non-profit foundations and organizations, most of the mainline religious denominations, all of the unions, much of the government bureaucracy, and are making serious inroads into large corporations and the military. It is thanks to Hillary that we have incompetents like General Janis Karpinski, whose only "qualification" for military leadership was a pair of X chromosomes.

Pay attention, FReepers: We must do everything within our means to keep the Gramscian termite Hillary Clinton away from the levers of power. There is no politician in the country who is more dangerous to everything we hold dear. I won't be too pleased if we have to nominate a Republican 'wet' like McCain or Giuliani to defeat her, but defeat her we surely must, at any cost.

Hey, if that's the only way, I'll say "do it."

An excellent post. As a sometime student of Marx I have to state that Marx would have regarded the current incarnation of Marxism as outrageous heresy. There are more factors in this than this medium will permit, but the principal among them is the redefinition of class that resides not in economics but in perceived political oppression by another class. This is what Marx termed "class consciousness," and is a necessary part, but not the entirity of his definition of a social class.

It became apparent to the Baran-Wallerstein school that there were severe historical problems with classic Marxism - certainties such as the increasing alienation, poverty, and illiteracy of the proletariat and decreasing profits for the capitalists simply did not take place, rather the opposite. What could be salvaged from this total failure of the predictive model was class-based political strife, but only if class itself was redefined. Hence the heresy.

The difficulty the postmodern school has encountered when it attempted to layer its strange nihilistic textual analysis over the new power relationships was that Marxism's already loose definitions took on a meaninglessness that defied logical analysis. Logic itself was the next target, and only in its new vicious, impotent form of "Critical Thinking" could it be bent to the purposes of a class analysis that had already been bent out of recognition.

The result is an utterly incomprehensible gibberish that poses as serious intellectual thought. The philosophy is sterile and ludicrous, but the tools it gave the unethical for attaining political power are finely-honed and terribly effective. They offer nothing in the way of exercising that power for the benefit of the masses. That is why a Castro, a Mugabe, a Chavez, a Lenin, can attain the highest seat of power and drive their respective countries to utter ruin. Gramsci taught his students how to use those tools. Not one of them has ever used them to create anything, only to destroy.

The process won’t be pretty. But I fear that if the rest of us don’t hound the po-mo Left and its useful idiots out of public life with attack and ridicule and shunning, the hard Right will sooner or later get the power to do it by means that include a lot of killing. I don’t want to live in that future, and I don’t think any of my readers do, either. If we want to save a liberal, tolerant civilization for our children, we’d better get to work.

Laughter disinfects Marxism. Goad the other people within their hearing into laughing at their position and they lose ALL their power. Their power derives solely from their ability to seem smug, intellectually superior, and pretentious. At least until they have assumed power; then the gulags and secret police kick in .

Cheers!

The author says this like it would be a bad thing or something. But seriously, we nuked two major cities less barely more than 60 years ago and I don't see any horror echoing anywhere.

In fact I see a vibrant Japan with a pretty strong economy.

Other than that, I don't disagree with much this person has to say.
