"I suspect the same will hold true with the women who must adhere to the new system and I will be terribly disappointed to see that happening to a sport I enjoyed watching. "

I think you will find that to be true. I watched the women a few weeks ago, in the nationals. It struck me the same way. I'm no expert, but I've been watching skating for many years, the new scoring system has ruined the sport.

. . . the new scoring system has ruined the sport.

I beg to differ on that one. What ruined the sport was that scoring scandal in 2002 that reduced Olympic figure skating to the same level as a World Wrestling Federation event, or a boxing match promoted by Don King.

From a sports enthusiast's standpoint, there is nothing more damaging to the reputation of a competitive sport than even a slight inkling that the outcome of a contest is somehow fixed. Figure skating is simply reaping what it has sown over the years.

I watched it as well. What turned me off about the women is they all grabbed their skate blade and cruised around. That and the fact the music stinks, both men and women. Can't anyone actually skate to upbeat music and at least try to coordinate with the tempo and rhythm? There was one women skater, I think it was a regional competition, who wasn't that bad and did a techo kind of performance, she was very fun to watch.
