FReeper Canteen ~ FReeper Canteen Kids Wednesday ~ Proud To Be A Military Brat! ~ 15FEB06
Serving The Best Troops In The World | The Canteen Kids

Posted on 02/14/2006 5:31:20 PM PST by MoJo2001

Hi! I'm The Sailor and MoJo's youngest son. My nickname at home is *Tibby*. You've probably seen my older brother, hotstreak, before. I'm 6 years old and currently in First Grade.

See the big guy pictured above? Do you know him who he is? If you like the NBA, you'll know it's Shaquille O'Neal.

He, hotstreak, and myself are part of a special community. We're proudly known as *military brats*. His father was in the Army while our Dad is in the Navy.

Military brat is an informal term for a child who has one or more parents who serves or served full-time in the military. It implies that such an upbringing is different in important ways from that experienced by those in the community at large, and can be an insult or a compliment, depending on the context. Although brat is usually taken to mean a spoiled child, military brats are usually considered more disciplined than their stateside peers.

Click here for a neat story about him and one of our heroes.

((HUGS))Good morning, Beach.

Well, aside from the Windows Update and that today is Norton Update Day. Not much going on. It's forecast to hit the upper 60's today.

He means a crabby crab! Boy, and after all I have done for him. For years I have taken his insults, his trashy pictures assaulting my delicate eyes. Day after day, I tell ya beach, it's enough to make a woman sob.

I gotta go make pancakes. Need something to soothe the long day.

The Elf and the Wrenn joined the Knight once again,
on the eve of their desperate quest,
to save the day, for the Queen of the Fey
and her rescue at the Lady’s behest.

But the three good friends whom on each they depend,
for this quest they weren’t going alone,
for as a matter of course, came a small fighting force
to lay siege to the castle of stone.

The three rode before this small group for war,
the sorceress, the Elf and the Knight,
with a elvish war band upon their left hand,
and the Leprechaun Guard on their right.

The host rode forward with horns sounding onward
on the path where they followed the Knight,
who led the way beneath the flag of the Fey,
a green banner with a star shining bright.

The Archer’s eyes, were bright as the skies
as she watched as the Knight rode to war,
the Champion blade on his lap he had laid
and had a look she had not seen before.

She rode up close, a question to pose
to her close and confidante friend,
”It’s silent you stay, but your eyes do betray
your thoughts are ever just ‘round the bend.”

”For when fighting is done, and the battle is won,
it’s the next fight you’re planning to face,
it’s always been so, tell me, why must you go
to meet battle at such a swift pace?”

The Knight looked instead, as he turned his head
down the road to the enemy’s haunt,
his shoulders were square, but the look in his stare
was the look of a soul that was gaunt.

“You know this is true, that before I met you,
I fought few battles to mind,
but together we fight, by day or by night,
your heart and mine of a kind.”

The Elf said to him with a slight pretty grin,
”Tell me something I’ve not heard you say,
for even I, a Queen’s Ranger, haven't seen this much danger,
why always put yourself in harm’s way?”

”I must know the truth, and must give the world proof,”
he replied after a moment more,
”that with all of my heart, as I stand apart,
am I truly worthy of war?”

”Now, glory, you’ve been told, is for the young and the bold,
but age doesn’t quench the heart’s fire,
and 'tis a mortal blow, for renown to go
beyond reach, or recall… or desire.”
