Tancredo Throws Punches at Bush
Human Events ^ | February 9 2006 | Robert B. Bluey

Posted on 02/09/2006 12:18:44 PM PST by Reagan Man

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.) didn’t hold back in his criticism of President Bush this morning at the Conservative Political Action Conference—delivering what amounted to a presidential stump speech that could have easily been delivered in New Hampshire or Iowa.

Tancredo attacked the administration for its support of a guest-worker program for illegal aliens and its big-spending ways on education and Medicare prescription drugs.

“It is the President who is out of step with his party, not Tom Tancredo,” the Colorado Republican said to applause at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Northwest Washington, D.C.

Tancredo called for the repeal of two programs offered by President Bush: the No Child Left Behind Act and the Medicare prescription drug program. Both expanded the cost of government and drew the scorn of conservatives in Congress.

Tancredo said the Big Government policies of the Bush administration need to be halted. He said conservatives must return the GOP to a “party of individual rights and shouldn’t afraid to say it.”

No, Tancredo is PNG because he and his supporters go out of their way to insult and alienate everyone who doesn't agree with them. That's why he is worthless as a legislator and won't actually accomplish anything useful. The man can't even carry most of the GOP with him -- let alone the Democrats -- but he acts like he has more juice than the President on this issue. He doesn't.

The man should be more savvy about how to use what influence he has and he could actually have a positive impact on the eventual bill.

People are not happy with the paternalistic attitude of the current administration. ("Be quiet and go to your room. This is an adult conversation and we know what's best for you.")"

Oh, this rebuttal oughta be gooood....(expect to be called a [ahem] "disrupter.")

If you weren't confused, you'd have a very easy time answering such a simple question.

If you're too dim to recognize the difference between the 11th commandment and campaigning there is nothing that can be done ...

What has Tancredo done to "insult and alienate everyone who doesn't agree" with him?

(as for his supporters, you can't seriously be suggesting that Tancredo's persona non grata because of what any of them have said, can you?)

And if you're too dim to recognize that there's no difference between Reagan's campaigning and the heat Bush has been getting over his amnesty idea, then no wonder you're confused.

ANYBODY carries "more juice" on the issue of illegals and border control than the President, who's been AWOL on the issue.

As far as Tancredo "alienating everyone," sometimes making a point mean stepping on toes.

I consider him courageous, and a legislator who understands the importance of American sovereignty.

His "accomplishment" is in embarrassing all that deem the border/immigration issue trivial -- bully for him.

Not at ALL. ...

Thanks for that, anyway.

Using your 'bull by the horns' analogy, maybe we're riding the bull, but instead of buckin'and broncin' he's being controlled and diverted. The rider is kickin' the bull on the left side and the beast is movin' right. I dunno the big picture, I don't like what appears to be happening, but I must trust the prez to protect the nation.

Seems you've got your hands full with more tag-team "disrupters" than I can count, Grunt.

Hang in there with your bustin' bronco ol' buddy.

1. Agree, except change "after" to "before".

2. I think vouchers are a Trojan horse. There has to be another way, or else (and it's getting close already) Chuckie and company are going to have leverage to pressure private schools. The only good thing about Jefford's move was truth in labeling.

"The size of the federal budget is not an appropriate barometer of social conscience or charitable concern."
-Gipper, 1981

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
-Ronald Reagan

Get the federal government OUT of education if you want Freedom to continue.

3. Agree again.

We've had people in this thread who have stated they want land mines and machine guns at the border. The Republican Strategerists who lurk here and elsewhere watch that stuff and can fairly conclude that the Maginot Line mentality is not exactly a position the President wants to be seen associating himself with.

The publicity from the Minutemen and problems at the border have had an effect on the President. I think that there is a chance for a good bill IF and ONLY IF the Tancredo types work with the President. Tom is not going to get everything he wants, but he does have influence and can, IMHO, get some changes to the President's position. That WILL NOT happen with a flamethrower.
