Nadia Matar to be Charged With Insulting a Public Servant 22:56 Feb 08, '06 / 10 Shevat 5766

(IsraelNN.com) Nadia Matar, co-chairwoman of the grassroots Women in Green organization, is to be charged with "insulting a public servant". The charges, filed today, stem from a letter she wrote to Yonatan Bassi, head of the Disengagement Authority, in which she likened him to a member of the Judenrat.

Matar told Arutz Sheva today that she has not yet received any official charges. At the same time, Matar said that if the issue is brought to court, then she will prove that others who used similar expressions were not charged. Matar says that the state prosecution is operating under a politically based double standard.

"Tommy Lapid said to Shimon Peres in 1995, two weeks before the Rabin murder, 'Yours is a Judenrat government,'" Matar noted. "The charges are more appropriate to the month of Adar, but I will use the forum in order to charge the expulsion criminals."

Imagine a country so free that insulting a public servant is a crime. Theb again the Nazis knew who to place on the Judenrats- (and hint they were not the demographic that davens threice a day and settles on Judea and Samaria)

Here in the USA that is a citizen's duty, not a crime.

Crikey, if Teddy Kennedy had a law like that, the whole country would be in jail!

That's funny, because you've had some scathing comments for those who are just "do(ing) their duty" when they question President Bush or the republican congress

Unless it's too close to Election Day. Or outside a "free speech zone". Or ...

A Citizen mocking the stupid commentary by aggressively ignorant posters on a website is NOT anywhere near the same thing as the Govt prosecuting someone for a crime. But considering your demonstrated intellectual limitations, I guess I can understand why you would be incapable of understanding the difference.

I sorry but it would be cruel of me to engage someone as intellectually limited as you in debate. I suggest a teen web site might be more your speed. You are seriously over matched here.

Again with the personal attacks, very impressive. Good day.

Speaking as someone who's been on the receiving end of some of those 'scathing comments', you need to understand that here at FR politics is a contact sport.

Do you have the text of the letter?

This is a witch hunt. They are trying to shut up an important voice in the movement that is anti-giveaways to terrorists. The Women in Green (Matar is the head of this organization) is a powerful force in the same way that mothers and women often have a powerful and authentic voices in protest. Israel knows this since another women's group, the Women in Black, virtually ended Israel's presence in Lebanon.

charged with "insulting a public servant".

That was a crime in the old Soviet Union. A comrade once called the local commissar "a retard" and got sentenced to Siberia for 30 years. Five years for calling the commissar "a retard" and 25 years for "revealing a government secret."

Besides the sellout of Israel to the so-called palestinians,
here's yet another reason not to go there.

That's one of the big problems with our culture: even conservatives confuse criticism with insults. Insults have never been a duty of Americans.
