How difficult can it be to get people into Maine in the first place? Just drive up 95 for gosh sake.

Saw this on TV and the reporter was trying to make it seem that because of President Bush the CIA was losing its left-wing anti Bush incompetents. Which is GOOD, but to her it was bad. We need to get rid of those who leak classified information to the press and to the enemies of the United States.

The CIA needs to order their fat, overindulged, secret-leaking, liberal, UN suck-up, middle management bureaucrats to get of their collective a$$es and report for duty in the desert.

".....More than a third of the current estimated 1,200 case officers have been on the job less than five years, but this problem predates Director Goss. Since there was very little hiring during the 1990s, the managerial corps that should be taking over now was never brought on board, and the agency is now reaping the consequences."

Key paragragh in entire article! Clintoon destroyed the CIA and now his little Clintonites at the agency are getting mad because they can't have their way..so they are leaking like a sieve to the press and ruining the agency from within and blaming it on Bush. What else is new...(rolling eyes)

I think the CIA should hire the top 20 KGB spy recruiters. They knew how to recruit them. The CIA complaining about turnover is a joke, they had nothing in the ME before 9/11 and they have little to nothing today. Lincoln went through General after General before he could find one who'd fight. Any beaucracy, where officials are named 'barons' is ripe for turnovers. And why not recall successful operatives, who are retired, like Bob Barr, who tracked down the Beirut Embassy bombers, while the US government showed no interest in getting them.

Unfortunately the CIA is dominated by left-wing personnel. They have no incentive to assist Bush in the war on terror and many, as have been seen on numerous occasions, actively work to hurt Bush and his causes. Until they hire people who are committed to the country and not a political ideology, the CIA cannot improve.

How about fewer spies and more Forward Air Controllers?

Clintoon destroyed the CIA

Clinton wasn't yet President when the CIA completely missed seeing signs of the impending break-up of the Soviet Union.

The CIA is like any large bureaucracy. It cannot find its ass with both hands.

People are sitting around picking their noses in cubicles at Langley just like at every other behemoth organization.

Interesting article. I'm of the theory, either do the job and do it right or don't let the door hit you in the a$$.
This is nothing but a bitch session for the poor traitors.

"...the clandestine service has always seen itself as first among equals."

Oh Brother!!

"Because virtually all of these individuals worked in clandestine capacities, U.S. News will not reveal their names or publish information that could lead to exposure of their identities."

LOL!

"The CIA is like any large bureaucracy. It cannot find its ass with both hands."

So..would you want to do away with them? I am sure there are many good hard working people in the CIA trying their best to protect this country. What I despise is the political hold-overs from the Clintoon administration staying on for the sole purpose of hurting the Bush Administration, leaking classified material and basically acting like jackasses! If Porter Goss is not the man for the job...so be it. Find another one.
The whole organization needs some major fresh blood and it sounds like some of the oldies are getting their panties in a twist over it. Who better to fight this new kind of war than the generation that will be fighting it long into the future?

I was going to make a Maine (ME) comment, but theDentist beat me to the punch. Of course, we're really talking the Middle East (ME); the original poster is earnest.

It would be nice to get a quick run-down on the domestic attacks on the CIA in the latter half of the 20th century. The Church committee would probably be a major instance.Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me could get the ball rolling.
