I think the kinder, gentler democrats figured out what Chip Reid is saying right now to Imus: That unless the NSA wiretaps uncover secret information about who's sleeping with who, unless the committee can come up with proof the wiretaps are infringing on someone's privacy, the American people are going to continue supporting the wiretaps. Reid said Americans are going to keep saying: "Please wiretap me, do anything you have to do to keep me safe!"

Reid did qualify to say, however, that if some guy at the NSA was bugging his ex-wife, the whole program would be toast.
Not even then, Mr. Reid.

"Someone please inform the DEMS they are on the wrong side of another national security issue....again." Why? Let them sink themselves into oblivion.

"This tempest is ultimately about procedures. If Bush couldn't spy from inside out, he'd spy from outside in. Scotland Yard and others would be happy to help. I would disagree. It's not about procedures; it's about power. The Senate considers this a an opportunity to gain some control over the Executive Branch. Ergo Arlen Specter's posturing. If it were a simple procedures play then you wouldn't see as many RHINO's criticizing the NSA program.

I think he was just trying to inject a bit of humor.
But the Dems have a big, big problem here. The consensus on the street is that if the Bush Admin used this program against political opponents, then they would be in trouble.
But the Dems winked at the Clinton Admin gathering in excess of 600 FBI files on pubbies - a clear abuse of the laws covering the use of such for political gain. So they have no moral ground to stand on here.
In a way, that's problematic. Any such program needs serious checks and balances, but the Dems are too unhinged to offer anything more than politics against it.

think he was just trying to inject a bit of humor.Either that or trolling for reports of abuse that the MSM could then go apespit over. It was a pretty evenhanded report. But if there is any abuse and it isn't institutional, the MSM better not get its hopes up that the public's gonna have a cow.

It may be time to call this bluff... Perhaps the President should ask for a "special" Declaration of War to ensure that he has the power to protect the American people from those who would destroy us. Regular criminals would continue to get the constitutional rights that the Democrats and ACLU are so anxious to make sure they have...

Keep in mind that yesterday was Monday, and Kennedy was probably extra-hungover. Give him a day or two to even things out with a few more bottles....

Spector, DeWine, Graham, and Brownback - all Republicans - criticized the program.

RINOs. Every one of them. They aren't Republicans because they believe in the platform -- they only signed onto that party because it was the only way to get elected in their states.
