PARIS, Feb 4, 2006 (AFP) - France's main Muslim and anti-racist organisations said on Saturday they would seek to take legal action following the publication of controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
Leaders of the French Council of the Muslim Faith said after a meeting they had asked the organisation's "lawyers to examine possibilities of taking legal action against the publication of the cartoons."
The anti-racist group MRAP also said it would sue French newspaper France-Soir for publishing the offending cartoons which it said amounted to "provocation and incitement to racial hatred".
"This cartoon deliberately takes part in racist blend of Muslims and terrorists," the organisation's president Mouloud Aounit told AFP.
The 12 cartoons, first published last year in Danish newspapers and more recently throughout Europe and beyond, have enraged the Arab and Muslim world because Islamic tradition bans depictions of the Prophet and Allah as blasphemous.
A day earlier a member of the Muslim umbrella group, the Union of Islamic Organisations of France (UOIF), had already said it was planning to file suit in the courts against the newspapers that published the cartoons.
Islam is the second largest religion in France, which is home to Europe's biggest Muslim community, estimated at five million.
France is probably very, very happy that so many Muslims have settled in their cheese-eating white flag country.
But that's not racist. It's just describing what's going on.
Racist? I bet the French would gladly trade all their Muslims for Armenians, Copts, or certain-types of Lebanese.
Race has nothing to do with it.

The scourge of Islam continues to show its ugly head.
Until this beast is destroyed, it will continue to tear apart everything we love (especially our freedom to worship the Father).
