How dense are you? Of course I know Jerry Rice is black. But Jerry Rice doesn't dress like a pimp and reinforce every negative stereotype whites have about blacks. He and Deion do for the black image what Terry Bradshaw does for Southerners - reinforce stereotypes for white liberals who run television that want to see themselves as superior to black people and rednecks. Elitism must always be reinforced, you know or how else can they prove they are elite?
Black athletes like Rice or Emmitt Smith don't dress up and act like assclowns on tv every week. They have too much pride in themselves for that. They outworked and outconditioned everyone on the field and deserve all the credit they get for their achievements because they did it with class. They don't have to go on television to convince people they were good.

Never read the book but it is one of my favorite movies and really has nothing to do with this discussion since you obviously didn't get my point.
