JON CARROLL [The Myth Of Cindy Sheehan]
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 2/3/6 | Jon Carroll

I do admire Cindy Sheehan. I like the way she used her moral authority to focus the attention on a single story of needless sacrifice, a single victim of the Bush administration's profligate and inept invasion of Iraq. Her standing as the mother of a soldier killed in the line of duty made her -- for a while -- not susceptible to the usual attacks from the right. When the sleek presidential motorcade whizzed past her small encampment in Crawford, Texas, it was a useful symbol for the decadent isolation of the Bush White House.

And so I say with all love: Cindy, back away from the fame machine. You are who you are, and you were great in that role, but you can't be someone else without a lot of work. And when things move too fast, you become a sock puppet, and easy to make fun of, and that hurts -- you, me, the cause, whatever. You could still be doing good, but right now, you're not helping. I have no idea whether you are leading the charge or following bad advice, but please, rethink the whole thing.

It all started when that encampment grew and grew. It became a kind of Woodstock for people with agendas. Inevitably, those agendas diluted and muddied the message, and pretty soon it became Camp Progressive Humans Against Globalization, Unsafe Logging Practices and American Policy in Burma. And then celebrities showed up, and we all had hot dogs and listened to Bruce Springsteen.

So somewhere, I think, Cindy Sheehan bought into the Cindy Sheehan myth. It happens. As my friend Carol Cantor says, "I think it's standard-issue (in the) left-wing activist's world, with the focus splintering into a multitude of passionate ineffectualities. She's done her bit and had her moment....

Yep, the challenge to DiFi put Sheehan over the top on the left. They are going to dump her.

Here is another reason for her downfall;
Cindy Sheehan, the so-called "peace mom" on a crusade to end U.S. involvement in the Iraq war, is publicly blasting Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., for her continued support of the ongoing conflict.

"I think she is a political animal who believes she has to be a war hawk to keep up with the big boys," Sheehan writes in an open letter posted on anti-Bush filmmaker Michael Moore's website. "I would love to support Hillary for president if she would come out against the travesty in Iraq. But I don't think she can speak out against the occupation, because she supports it. I will not make the mistake of supporting another pro-war Democrat for president again: As I won't support a pro-war Republican."

Is that really true? According to everything I have read, she and Caseys father were married over 25 years, and he just filed for divorce in 2005.

From Wikpedia:

Sheehan lived with her husband and four children (Casey was the oldest) in Norwalk, California before moving to Vacaville, California in 1983. While in Norwalk, the family was active in the Roman Catholic church in Norwalk. In Vacaville, Cindy Sheehan has been a youth minister at St. Mary's Church [24]]

After being married for 28 years, Sheehan's husband, Patrick Thomas Sheehan (Casey's father), filed for divorce on August 12, 2005. Although Patrick Sheehan has not spoken publicly about his beliefs or the reason for the divorce, according to Cindy, her husband "[did]n't support [her] activities, although he knows the war is a lie". Patrick and Cindy were high school sweethearts. [25]

Cindy Sheehan has a living elderly mother. After her mother suffered a stroke on August 18, 2005 Sheehan had to leave her protest in Crawford in order to be with her mother in a hospital in Los Angeles. She rejoined the protest she started a week later.

If she really did not raise her son, that needs more exposure! Not that many really buy the "mother of the year" self appointed title she has claimed, anyway.

The leftist moonbats used her like a j_zz-rag... so did our 5th Column MSM... maybe even more. It was ALL CINDY... 24/7 for the month of August... until the MSM shifted to Katrina.

Katrina... a Level 3-5 hurricane that George W. Bush could've stopped... but didn't because blacks lived there.

"Not only has she abandoned her remaining children but I wonder how they feel when they read the bad press, satire and derision written about their mother."

She has allowed the far left to co-opt her protest. Reminds me of an old worn-out floozie. She'll let anybody get into her bed, as long as they pay for the room.

what is "the cause"?

The Cause is advancement of the liberal project. The Cause is discernible in what used to be officially termed The Party Line. The specifics change, sometimes radically in a trice, and depend on what is perceived as advancing The Cause at any given moment. When a clause in the party line changes the whole Liberal caste flops with the New Line as fast as they hear it and now that is the speed of email and television.

I wish more people would make light of the fact that Cindy did not raise Casey, that Casey was raised by his step-mom. Cindy had only decided to become a mother when it was advantageous for her.

Would you please post a reliable link to this rumor? I have heard just the opposite on FR - that Cindy and her husband were married only to each other and raised four kids, and he split with her only last year. Please show us where you can document otherwise.

See post 53. Cindy raised Casey. FR should avoid perpetuating baseless rumors. The truth is bad enough.

Ok, thanks for the info.
Back to my earlier post.
Now, she has done only ONE admirable thing. Giving birth to Casey.

RIP Casey.

Think about this AW, how in the world did this hateful traitor raise a son, who as an army mechanic, said (paraphrase)"Where my Sargent goes, I go"?
