Still have mine. They were issued to me in the late 60's. I keep them on a key chain.

The ever present Dog Tags! More than a few GI children used them for Teething purposes sitting in their GI parents lap.

As a recruit I never wore Dog Tags in Boot Camp, I had not yet earned The Ttitle U.S. Marine.

My husband didn't wear his tags when he was on submarines, as it was a noise issue. Of course, every piece of uniform clothing has his name stenciled on it.

Thanks for posting, dog tags can also be history

I have the round aluminum tag my Grandfather wore while severing with the Army in France, fighting the Huns

I have the tags my Father and Uncle wore in WWII and Korea - fighting the Germans (Uncle) and Japs (as my dad called them) - and later, in both served in the Korea conflict (a war, really) fighting Communists.

Sitting next the last pair I had made, just before I retired from the USAF

Sitting next to them a 'spare" I snagged from my son between stints in Iraq with the Marines.

Yup, these tags can hold a lot of history....
