I grew up in PA and we have a saying there that everything between Philly & Pittsburg is like Albama, I doubt a black man stands a chance of getting elected there. None of the white Republicans I know will vote for a black man, a factor no one is considering.

To such people, there is often a difference between a "black man" and a Republican Steeler legend who is black.

But I'm not familiar with the rural areas of the Commonwealth. I guess we'll find out when we see the turnout numbers.

Look what Louisiana did to an Indian-American running on the pubbie ticket.

I would say you might be right...but I think Steelers fans might be able to tip the balance.

That's funny, cause I live in the mid-state and every single Pubbie I know will vote for Swannie if he's the nominee (which is all but a given). But I do know a few that won't vote for Scranton. And it's not Alabama...it's Kentucky, as in "Pennsyltucky".

In 1986, MI refused to support a black Republican nominated for governor. A lot of those northern states are good at lecturing the South on its racial problems, but they draw the line on black candidates for major office, particularly within the GOP.
