I have a .40 (glock) and it kicks like a mule.
Went shooting w/ a friend and his .45 was smooth as silk.
SMACK!!! (Hitting forehead w/ palm) shoulda bought a .45!
All in the weight of the gun.

Years ago, I bought a Star Firestar in .40S&W. A few months after I bought it, they released one in .45! I feel the same way... Oh, BTW, you want to talk about kicking hard? The Firestar is about the size of a .380 pocket pistol. About 20 rounds of practice is all I care to deal with at one time. It's not a fun gun to shoot.

Is it the M23? That has a rep for some barrel whip. But the real question is: How are you shooting when you make this judgment on recoil? IOW, Are you shooting at static targets on a range....ie "target shooting?" If so, try a course of fire with an IDPA club. IDPA Like the immortal words of the Sundance kid as played by Robert Redford: Can I move? I'm better when I move. Shooting in a simulated combat (as close as is safely possible) situation will tend to take your mind off recoil as you are concentrating on solving the tactical problem. You'll have to draw from concealed, take cover, reload in a tactical manner, shoot on the move and give voice commands appropriate to the scenario. It REALLY makes a difference.

I shoot both a G23 and a G27 ; I find they recoil like a 9mm.
I shoot 180g JHP with little or no recoil.
Now my G30 .45 ACP shooting 230g JHP has more recoil but is very manageable.
.
Do you shoot with one hand or two hands?
If you shoot with two hands do you use a isosceles or point shoot?
Or do you shoot short or extended weaver grip?
Do you squeeze the trigger?
Perhaps taking an NRA basic pistol course from a Certified Instructor
would help you control the handgun.
My daughter has been shooting my Glock 27 since she was eleven.
She never complained about recoil.
THink...pistol weight.....The Glock kicks because it is so light....
On the other hand, my pants sometimes fall to the floor at the unrinal...due to the weight of my 45....GRIN.
If you think the recoil is bad, wait until it explodes in your hand. Ducking and deploying flame resistors.
