"Brokeback Mountain" and a slew of other arty, less-widely seen Oscar-nominated flicks are expected to take the polish off ABC's ratings for the Academy Awards this year.
With no big-budget films like "Titanic," "Gladiator" or "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" in this season's crop of nominees, ABC may be staring down the barrel of one of the lowest-rated Oscar telecasts in recent memory when it airs on March 5, say TV-industry analysts.

I have to clean out my sock drawer!!
On a thread yesterday, I suggested that Fox air some major John Wayne movie opposite the Oscars and promote the heck out of it. I bet it would get a much higher rating.
Alas, I have to watch this group of leftist egomaniacs congratulate themselves for four hours for making money-losing propaganda because I have to write jokes about it for my job in radio. I'm not looking forward to trying to make something this deadly into something entertaining. I will put in a word for "Capote," though, which is the only Best Pic nominee that I think deserves to be there. People shouldn't be put off by the gay aspects; it's not a major part of the film, it's just part of the character of Truman Capote, and is historically accurate but not dwelled on at all. In fact, the movie is sort of a morality tale about how far someone will go to achieve earthly success and the toll it takes on his soul. It's mostly about how Capote would do anything to get his book written, even if it meant befriending murderers to gain their trust and get their story, then lying to them about not being able to find them a lawyer for their appeal because his book was overdue and needed their execution for an ending. I bet the crowd in Hollywood really related to it.
When this sort of film is heralded by the Hollywood elite as "great" yet, comparatively, nobody goes to see it, is it a wonder why box office receipts go down year after year? Can they be anymore out of touch with what people want when they go to the movies.
Just last week my wife screamed for me to squash something that looked very like that thing in the last picture. Made a big mess on my boot. All sorts of weird bugs come out on warm days in the winter.
Tonight on Law and Order: Snails
A snail is attacked by two slugs. "Did you get a good look at your attackers?"
"No. It all happened so fast."
****As far as I'm concerned, Hollyweird can stick Brokeback Mountain up their . . .****
Along with that golden icon called Oscar.
"I'm not going to watch it because it's boring -- it really is boring -- but I hope Philip Seymour Hoffman wins. The guy is an excellent actor."
I'm not sure who Philip Hoffman is or what role he played. If it was the Capote thing, I wouldn't pay to see it either. I am hoping Joaquin Phoenix wins for "Walk the Line". He absolutely nailed Johnny Cash! I am no C&W fan, nor did I ever listen to much Johnny Cash...but Phoenix BECAME Johnny Cash...the way Cash held his shoulder, looked, etc. And Phoenix sang all of the songs himself.
Just my opinion...Joaquin Phoenix deserves best actor. Probably won't get it though.
I don't think I will tune in to watch Bareback Mountin' take all the awards either.
Warning!
I am stealing your graphic!
Great. Then Americans would never leave the house!
This is a Public Relations ploy. By putting out the news in the Lame Stream Media that they are expecting a low turnout, any turnout can be "Higher Than Expected.
It is a win/win for Brokeback and the Oscars.
Philip Seymour Hoffman played Capote, but he's been turning in brilliant performances for years. He was the spoiled kid in Scent of a Woman and the yuppie in the Talented Mr. Ripley and the male nurse in Magnolia.
Hollywood abandons family entertainment to promote the liberal agenda.
And then they blame us when their ratings and revenues plummet.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR MOVIE TITLE. RIGHT ON....
1. ABC/CBS/NBC/MSNBC/PBS/CNN
2. Oscars/Tonys/Any Music Award/Peoples Choice Nonsense
3. Anything having to do with the Left/Communists/Socialists/Homosexuals!
Brokebutt Hollywoody.
Who needs it.
