I suspect that if they tried that it would be a huge backlash and the republicans would regain the house in 2008 as well as retain the White House. People want them to work on their behalf, not do impeachment nonsense.

What about impeachment in the case of the judiciary such as Supreme Court justices who render particularly eggregious decisions? (The recent eminent domain decision in Kelo v City of New London comes to mind.) Would it be good to keep the courts from crossing the line by holding out impeachment as a threat or would that deprive the courts of too much independence? Do you think that incompetent judicial decisions are ground for impeachment in the Judicial sphere? (If I recall correctly, in a Judicial impeachement a judge is NOT automatically removed from office upon conviction. After a judge is convicted another vote is taken to decide the punishment and whether he should be removed and barred from holding future office).

Let me get this straight, Bill Clinton has a true "domestic spying" program in place, in peace time, which intercepted calls that may have related to drug trafficking, industrial espionage etc. Of all of the warrant less searches authorized by Clinton, only the Aldrich Aims spy case seems to fall under the President's Article II power. Yet, even after this story ran on 60 minutes in 2000, before the election, the lefties had not one peep of complaint.

Now a Republican spies on Al-Qaeda, with whom we're at war, and every left-wing nut-job in the country is screaming for impeachment.
(P.S. I was driving near DC on I-95 / 495 yesterday and as I approached exit 169, some Dim had hung a bedsheet on a pedestrian overpass that said "Impeach" A freeper in the area needs to take another sheet, write "Hillary" and hang it right beside it.)

It's going to be difficult to impeach when you don't have Congress.

If they keep the impeachment talk up it's gonna hurt them in November.

"...In fact, many of the people calling for impeachment could be said to be ultra-left wing "ideologues"."

don't forget the people concerned 'bout lack of protecting our national security because immigration laws not being enforced.

This will definitely backfire, especially since alot of them voted to support the war.

My gawd I really hope they try. If they do, the Dims can kiss '08 bye-bye, and probably '12 too.

Exactly. Or, alternatively, as the head of the Executive branch, he is also the highest ranking Law Enforcement person. If a cop is convicted of perjury he is NEVER able to work in law enforcement again. That turd, Clinton, was able to keep his job.

It's interesting that lawyers are, somehow, able to be convicted of perjury and still practice law...
